Wendel to Napoli
By: fortunato | March 14th, 2008Not that we want to think too far ahead but it has been reported that come the summer transfer market, Napoli will make Brazilian midfielder, Wendel, currently playing for Bordeaux in the French Premier league, their top priority for signing.
Wendel is an extremely offensively talented player who can also be used as a striker, if required. He is coming off his best game of the season on March 2, 2008 against Paris St Germain (scoring all three goals in a 3-0 win) to keep the Bordeaux side within striking distance of the French premiership leader, Lyon.
His name is Wendel Geraldo MaurĂcio da Silva, born April 28, 1982 in Mariana, Brazil. His current statisitics indicate 7 yellow cards this season along with 10 goals. I am unsure of his price tag.
I believe in the importance of a strong midfield and subscribe to the theory that the midfield is where the game is won and lost. I relish at the thought of Blasi, Hamsik and Wendel in our midfield…but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. We can dream though…..

mj. I don’t think you are living in a jungle. If you are like most of us, Italian, English and maybe Spanish football is primarly what’s on TV. French premiership is not broadcast at all here in Canada thus most of us would likely never of heard of Wendel. From what I have seen and what I have read, he is really a good player with the potential to be great. It’s like with Hamsik. I saw him here and there at Brescia last year but had no idea idea he had the skill that he has shown….Want another example?..How about Lavezzi. This time last year, I had no idea who he was.
