We’ll miss you
By: Joe | December 18th, 2007
Tifosi: O Calaiò, Calaiò, wherefore art thou Calaiò?
Deny thy bench and refuse thy Reja;
Or if thou wilt not, be gone in January
You will be, and we’ll no longer love our arciere.
Calaiò: Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this? Have I not performed well? Have the fans turned against me? Please, can I stay?
Tifosi: ‘Tis but the rigore sblagiato that ended it all.
Domizzi urged you to bury it, but Edy wailed “No!”
You heard the gaffer but longed more to hear the San Paolo roar.
And so pride took hold and you stood on the spot.
Caliaò: 38 times I scored since Marino plucked me from Pescara.
All over Italy I’ve rained in goals. From Bari to Treviso, from Crotone to Bergamo defenders and keepers alike feared the arcieri. Can it all be gone so soon?
Reja: Calaiò must be made to suffer for his insolence. Suffer do you hear me!? Now where is that young Grava fellow? My throat is parched and requires a fresh Orangina.
Caliaò: Is there no hope, Mr. Reja? It’s just that I hadn’t scored in Serie A since I was a lad of 18 and the crowd was urging me on.
Reja: Behind the Pampa he will rest. For 10 minute stretches you may play but no more! Where is that Orangina?
Tifosi: We beseech you, Coach Reja, play our arciere. We miss our Calaiò.
Reja: (aside) But of course you can wear the armband again Grava. Your ball-losing skills and man mismarking are key to our success.
<clears throat>Mine ears have heard your requests, tifosi partenopei! Your beloved Calaiò shall receive an opportunity to prove himself. In Roma, Calaiò, in Roma you will play.
Enjoy your last match with us Emmanuele Calaiò. Here’s hoping you score a tripletta and force the old coot’s hand.
Reja is set to give Calaio his first start since opening day in tomorrow’s Copa Italia match against Lazio. I fear it’ll be last in a Napoli shirt.

Guidolin is smart enough to use him. I don’t care how many goals Zalayeta has scored, Calaio is a better player.

If we were still in the UEFA cup I would say bring Calaio on…alas we are eliminated. I don’t see where he would fit into our lineup. He would be getting the same garbage time he gets at Napoli.

I just don’t understand Reja’s thinking on Calaio at all.

Joe, as a friendly Southern Side, we’ll gladly take him off your hands. In return, can we send you Biava, Pisano and Agliardi?

Wow, Steven…now that is generous. Maybe you could throw in a few cases of wine to boot? I am with ricci though in that I don’t understand where he’d fit in with Palermo. I think you all are set at the striker position. All that being said, if he goes somewhere, I’d prefer it be a Southern side or at least a ’smaller’ club because he’s not good enough to displace any strikers at Inter, Roma or Juve. Milan? That’s another story as I think he’s better than Gila.
Damn shame…damn shame.

It all depends on Amauri. I wouldn’t count on him staying so why not pick up the talented hometown boy? Man, I wouldn’t mind seeing 4 strikers on the field at once. 8-6 scores would be fun to watch

Joe,
I am not totally convinced we have seen the last Manu’s performance in the azzurri shirt. There’s rumor of a possible loan out. what more do you know?
BTW, good to see Sam trickery on Wed. The guy is slow and heavier then ever but still got it.Posted from
