Udinese vs. Napoli
By: Neil | February 24th, 2013Udinese have only lost 7 matches all season, the same number as AC Milan, Lazio, and Fiorentina. And at the Stadio Friuli they’ve only lost once in 12 matches. It’s really their road form which is keeping them down the table in 9th place. So this is comparable to the Parma match where Napoli have to find a way to win in an arena where almost nobody has won this season (Parma have now lost another at home.) Oh, and just four days later there’s the game of the season against Juventus. If Napoli can only draw against Udinese, they will enter Friday’s game six points back of Juve, which at this point in the season would make Friday a must win game. This could be the defining week of Napoli’s season for better or worse.
Pandev is a diffidato, and Mazzarri would like him available for Juventus. So look for Insigne to start this one and Pandev to come off the bench if needed. Otherwise it’s a full starting lineup with Zuniga favoured over Armero.
De Sanctis – Campagnaro, Canna, Britos – Maggio, Inler, Behrami, Zuniga – Hamsik – Cavani, Insigne
Napoli has just one competition left, Serie A, and only 13 matches left in until the summer break. This is crunch time, and expect nothing to be held back, even with Juve waiting with one more day’s rest. The big question is can Napoli’s offence wake up after scoring just once in the last four games? (and it was a defender’s goal, Hugo Boss against Lazio)
I’m guessing we will see Napoli’s offence come to life; whether it results in goals is anybody’s guess. Udinese are stingy at home and I just can’t see this one turning into a high scoring affair. But I am predicting at least one Napoli goal.

Benatia was destroying insgine. I expect insigne to turn it up with him out

Music, Napoli and now Buddhist philosophy, all in one place.
I’d like to point out though that our very participation in this forum (a Napoli fan forum) is in itself detrimental to our progression along the Noble path.
I don’t know about you guys, but this is one attachment I am not willing to let go of any time soon.

haven’t scored from open play in 5 games. terrible. Friday is a must win if we want to challenge juve

-

Still pissed at the game. Same stories as last 3 yes.
1. We can’t win the big game. Seems as if every time we get an opportunity to do something great, we don’t come through. The win in jn the CL vs Villarreal is the only exception.
2. A team mirrors our formation and our attack was weakens.
3. I’m pretty sure this is the same ref that gave maggio a yellow(his second of the game) for simulation in the box when maggio was clearly fouled.
4. Mazzarri saying we were unlucky.

-

Steve I believe the ref was Antonio Damato, who generally does a good job with Napoli games. I don’t recall the incident where Maggio got a second yellow for simulation?

did some investigating

That is a good memory and some impressive reserach my friend… I had even forgotten about those awful red Napoli jerseys. No wonder they didn’t last.

-

Neil I have still got a red one going back even further I like them and mine looks very fetching on me I must say. Can someone please remind me what year it is it is red with a white collar with a red trim on the collar and a red and white checked diamond addition on the right sleeve top only above the Umbro badge with Voiello as the sponsor in fact am gonna wear it tonight while watching my home town team Middlesbrough whop Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup as they also play in red. With the latest news over the “proposed” sale of Cavani it will be paradoxically the most haunting question for De La. It’s whether he can afford to sell Cav for the buoyancy of Napoli the loss of Cav to the team would not be so much an amputation as an evisceration. Thank-you Mr Lawton

Anything is nicer than the yellow from last year. My first Napoli jersey dates from the early nineties. I was about 11 or 12 and purchased it with my own funds that I had saved up (~60$ if I remember correctly). It currently hangs in the back of my classroom under a Napoli scarf. I’ve been on the hunt for a jersey from this season but can’t bring myself to pay 30$ shipping from across the pond and Macron has no importer here in Canada. I figure the copa italia bulls eye is somewhat meaningful, especially since we beat Juve in the final.
How about the Maradona show this week? I love how he takes a shot at Pele everyttime someone puts a mic in his face.

Dave that red shirt is from 1991-1993 i gots the same one. Always remember Daniele Fonseca wearing thet jersey for some reason.

-

Nice one Ciro well done . Now Fonseca there was a player did the biz for us but no-one else. A Uruguayan or shud that be an Uruguayan doesn’t sound rite. Also Mr Mario putting your shirt up at the back of the classroom are you a teacher? Do the school governors allow it more to the point do the know. Hopefully it will inspire a new generation of Canukianini respect the birthplace of football in Italy thanks to English sailors football. Keep it up old son. Remember what Sid sed when he tells the the people he can fulfil only one of their wishes. Someone asks: “Could you lower the price of property in China so that people can afford it?” Seeing the Buddha frown in silence, the person makes another wish: “Could you make the Chinese football team qualify for a World Cup?” After a long sigh, the Buddha says: “Let’s talk about property prices.”

Dave, I am a teacher in a very Italian part of Montreal. Most of my students’ parents immigrated from the south of Italy, yet they are mostly Interisti, Juventini and Milanisti. Having the shirt in the class is my way of telling them they should be more in touch with their southern roots.
Also, the Buddist joke made me think of a great Tibetan movie called “The Cup”. You should look it up, it is well worth watching. A young monk tries to convince the head monk to get a satelite dish at the monastery to watch the World Cup final between France and Brazil back in ‘98

Mario You can get the Coppa Italia badges cheap as $2 dollars on E bay.
Surely some shops n USa sell napoli shirts if not serves themselves rite get a dodgy one from Thailand. In Italy I paid 20 euros for two on Pisa market. Corse the quality is not too clever but wash em in cold water and allow to dry naturally and they are ok. I know you do not get to Pisa every weekend but my daughter bort her then boyfriend a genuine Inter shirt with the 3d badge and everything real embroidery for 20 Euros. God knows how they got them we naturally didn’t ask. They we were a season out of date but stil the same sponsor. The Napoli shirts did not have the badge but i bort two for 3 Euros each back in Viareggio they must have seen me coming.

-

Yeah, I’ll probably cave and buy one on fleabay for around 30CAD. Only tough decision is who’s name to get on the back. My son had a Quagliarella baby kit a few years back and we all know how that worked out. I’ll either go Canna or Lorenzinho, that should be safe.
And if there are shops that sell Napoli shirts, I haven’t found them. None here in Montreal and I checked in Boston when I was there in November. A buddy I play football with owns a shop and says that there used to be a Macron importer for NA but they no longer exist. So we can find leftover jerseys from the last two seasons but nothing from this year with the Copa badge.

-

Only places I’ve seen Napoli shirts is at the Macron or UK Soccer Shop websites. Mario, I think the UK Shop now ships to the US for like $15. Not sure if it’s the same for Canada, but it’s worth taking a look. I got my Canna shirt last year and Insigne shirt this year from there.

-

Mario get Madonna oops Freudian slip Maradona on the back you can’t go wrong
Diego may simply be a single drop of rain
But he will remain
And he’ll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

-

I think Amazon has a this year’s jersey with a badge on it.

-

We should perhaps put only the year that we became fans of the shirt, like CLASSE 91

-

I saw ‘The Cup’ a long time ago and it’s well worth watching, a heart warming story but not too sentimental.

-

I’ve only seen one store in Toronto that sells the Macron Napoli kits.
