Torino 2 Napoli 1 Review
By: fortunato | May 4th, 2008Our boys headed into Torino after a goalless draw at the San Paolo stadium the week previous against Siena in a very winnable match. The Partenopei were sitting comfortably in ninth-place with 47 points and Manager Edoardo Reja was disappointed with the Siena draw when he declared, “Seeing the results from the other games we could have taken a step loser to Europe.” Well, this game at Torino was very disappointing as they fell to the Granata 2-1 in the Stadio Olimpico in Torino minus defender Paolo Cannavaro. This game marked the debut of new Argentine keeper Nicolas Navarro.

Unfortunately Napoli lost to a Torino team who sat just a single point above the relegation zone and in desperate need of a result. I am a little pissed off with this result and their crappy performances against Cagliari, Siena, Empoli, Reggina and Torino this season!! The Granata team did not deserve this win in any way. The penalty against Domizzi was BS!!
Maybe I will post the official game review some other time but to me, this game sucked all around! I am Napoli’s worst critic but I felt that they held the balance of play (proved by the stats) and although I didn’t see the game live or anything I thought DiMichele was offside not to mention (again) the BS call against Domizzi which led to the first goal (was it just me or did Navarro look toally lost on that kick). Maybe I am still pissed about the December game in Napoli but I think the Granata have played totally crappy against our boys in both games this season and we have 1 point to show for it because of two BS calls on penalty kicks. I have acknowledged that Torino has a good team on paper but man they have sucked this year and they were there for the taking today!!!
Man..our team needs some maturity and that killer instinct!!! Losing games like this is inexcusable in my mind if you’re serious about being a major player in Serie A. I am trying to be realistic as I realize they were just promoted just last June but geez, stop with these crap results against the relegation teams of the year. I am not trying to compare ourselves to Inter or Roma but I do try to compare ourselves to the Udinese and Sampadoria of the world and again I am disappointed in the lack of a killer instinct on our team.
Playing General Manager, here is what I would do: Reja goodbye!! Marino, in the summer transfer market, please get us at least another striker and a little more depth at the midfield (I demand not to see either Savini or Garcs starting next season) and defense spots (sit Cannavaro’s ass down next year if need be) and maybe a little more maturity all around. Iezzo, ciao, thanks for thre memories but buddy, your best years are behind you. Priority number one should be to stop this madness and lack luster play against these shitty Serie A teams…I can’t take it anymore (it started Day 1 against Cagliari in San Paolo)!! Our team has the talent to conetent seriously for a UEFA Cup spot, but the reason we aren’t is because we can’t beat the shitty teams. That’s been the story of our season and the reason we have nothing left to play for. End of story!!!
Oh by the way both Blasi and Santacoce are disqualified for next week’s match against AC Milan at the San Paolo.

Don’t take it so hard. Torino needed the game and Napoli didn’t. You are right, the penalty was BS, but Dimichele was onside. Plus even though Napoli had a greater percentage of ball control, Torino had more quality opportunites.

I’ll be OK Roberto. Thanks for the concern.

After the win over Atalanta, the Gazzetto dello Sport reported Reja was offered a one year extension… I don’t know whether there’s any real truth to that. I think his future is still up in the air. Napoli struggled against Milan and Lazio earlier in the year - the Coppa loss to Napoli was tough to take - and I think he’ll be gone unless the team puts in a good showing the last two games.

I don’t know why Napoli would get rid of Reja. He beat Juve, beat Inter and brought Napoli to the upper half of the table first year after getting them promoted, twice. That would be incredibly stupid.

Yeah but he’s lost to Caglari twice, tied Reggina twice, lost to Catania, Torino and Empoli once (thus picking up 7 points out of a possible 30 against the low teams). Imagine how well the team could have done had they picked up 15 points against these teams…they’d be in UEFA Cup contention. He plays an outdated and defunct 3-5-2 and has mis-used his bench all year long. I think the feeling of many Napoli fans is that the team has already gone as far as it can with Reja there. To take the next step, we need someone else.

Someone with… a clue. Yeah, that’d be nice.
