The 2007 jersey. Guh.

By: Joe | July 30th, 2007

I am a little late reporting this news but Napoli announced their new kits last week. For the second year now, Napoli’s kits are designed by Treviso-based Diadora. The company has produced some great kits since they broke into the soccer market in the late 70’s. They produce the home kit for the glorious nation of Kazakhstan for God’s sake. Wee wa wee wa.

The kits just suck. I realize it’s all opinion and opinions are like assholes itchy private parts. We all have them and at one time or another, they all stink.

The club will once again go with their traditional blue kits for all home games. Napoli also has a red and white kit. Although I cannot remember the last time they wore their white kits. Fans in Napoli are railing against the new unis. The forum of the official web site has a petition to implore the club to change the design. They’ve also come up with an alternative which is essentially taking Roma’s kits from last year when they were with Diadora (since switched to the finest kit maker in all of sports, Kappa).

Now this I would buy.

The most glaring eyesore is the huge “Lete” logo in the center. Why the club chooses to place a red box around the sponsor’s name is beyond me as it is not part of their official logo. The neckline looks like something out of a science fiction flick and they have armpit swirls (in contrasting colors no less) to highlight the…uh, armpits? Six years away from Serie A with a rabid public behind you and this is what we’re going to wear? I’ll wait until next year to get a new jersey.

(Pictures of the new jerseys after the jump. The picture above is what I wish the kits looked like.)

Ye gods. How wrong can they get it? That’s horrible.

Ooooh I do like the pretend ones. Maybe you can manufacture some and send them directly to the players? Surely they’ll prefer them as well.

    But…why…ugh! What were they thinking??

I was so confused when I started reading. I looked at the picture of the wishful thinking kits and thought they looked awesome. Then I clicked and saw the pictures of the actual kits, and they’re AWFUL. It’s like last year’s kit, but made worse instead of better. Was the designer drunk? What’s up with the screwy neck thing? And why do they appear to not actually fit anyone properly? The white ones are the least objectionable, but the red and blue ones are horrible. Any chance the club will change their minds and say this was just a bad joke?

I’d buy the fan-designed kit, but there’s no way I’m paying for the ones in the pictures above.

Nice that the socks and the shorts look good seeing as they haven’t changed since God knows when. At least they have the good sense not to jack with that… those necklines are just a disaster and you’re right in that the shirts don’t seem to fit anyone. Not sure if they just ordered 100 XXL’s and just gave them out in a rush. The practice shirts are actually kind of cool actually. I need to move on. At least the club saved me money this year because there’s no way I’m getting these jerseys.
