Sampdoria vs. Napoli preview
By: Neil | April 2nd, 2009Lavezzi is out for the Samp game with a left bicep injury he picked up while on international duty with Argentina. He will likely be replaced by Andrea Russotto, who could earn his first start in a Napoli jersey. Can anyone remember the last time, if ever, Russotto made the starting lineup? Other absences include Blasi (5 yellows) and Iezzo, Maggio and Gargano, who are all gone for the season.
The last nine games are a great opportunity for players like Navarro, Pazienza, and Datolo to prove their quality. With a restructuring almost certain to take place in the summer, now is the time for fringe players to step up and win a place on next year’s team. I’d even like to see Luigi Sepe get another game, one where he doesn’t have to come in as an emergency sub against Fiorentina.
Sampdoria are just one point behind Napoli in the standings, but they’re one of Serie A’s hottest teams. The arrival of striker Giampaolo Pazzini from Fiorentina has seen their campaign completely turned around. The combination of Pazzini and Cassano has been deadly, and Pazzini has scored eight goals in eight games since joining Samp! He also scored his first international goal in last week’s 2-0 win over Montenegro. However, Pazzini will be suspended for his next international game after being harshly sent off in Italy’s 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland. Since the arrival of Pazzini Sampdoria’s record is 3-4-1, with a victory against Milan and draws with Juve and Roma. The one loss in that run was a 3-0 defeat away to Bologna.
A couple of Napoli players saw international action recently. Slovakia’s Marek Hamsik played last Saturday in a friendly against England, and again in a WC qualifier on Wednesday against Czech Republic. Slovakia upset the Czechs 2-1 in Prague, and have a great chance of reaching South Africa with four wins from five qualifiers. Santacroce also played for the U-21s in a friendly against the Netherlands.
This game should be just as fun to watch as the Milan game. Unfortunately, I’m going to miss it because I’ll be Dallas all weekend. This week I’ve been a little busy preparing for the trip, so this preview is a bit thin. But then again so is Napoli’s lineup for Sunday. I don’t know if I’ll have any kind of game report, but I’ll do a post on Tuesday with some comments and whatever else needs to be updated.
Napoli possible lineup: Navarro – Santacroce, Cannavaro, Contini – Grava, Montervino, Pazienza, Hamsik, Mannini – Zalayeta, Russotto
Wow. That lineup looks even worse than I thought. Maybe Datolo will get a chance somewhere in the midfield? I’d be happy with a draw given it’s a road game and Samp is on fire. The week after Napoli is back at the San Paolo against Atalanta, which seems to me a better candidate for the Don’s first win.

ebay.it has loads of stuff and you can find anything you want napoli related. shipping from italy could be a problem although i got a training shirt and had no difficulties. try http://www.e-napolistore.it/ as well that seems to stock alot of stuff

Thanks! It would be nice to get a shirt next year with F. Cannavaro on it wouldn’t it?

theres another reason why he should join, the club would make alot from merchandise. plus sponsors. i would definitely get a f.cannavaro shirt. so long as they dont make the napoli badge small and put it in a really shit place whilst making the lete sponsor bigger. dont like this seasons shirts at all. the 05-06 and 07-08 are best apart from the maradona era tops

That’s a good website, Alex. A lot of good stuff at good prices! Thanks. I have also purchased items from calcionapolistore.it (the unofficial calcio napoli store). They have some shirts from the days when Peroni was Napoli’s sponsor. Delivery was very prompt. Just a warning: while I’ve never had a problem with them before, recently I purchased a goal keepers shirt–extra large. Although the shipping invoice indicated that an extra large shirt was shipped, the one I received was a large, and too small for me. I have sent several emails to the email address that the website gives for sales issues and returns. I also sent them by overseas mail a photocopy of the shipping invoice indicating an extra large shirt had been sent, along with a photocopy of the packaging for the actual shirt, indicationg that it was a large. To date I’ve heard nothing back from them and the items have already beeen billed to my credit card and I’ve paid the bill. I guess I’ll give the shirt to my son when he’s older. I doubt that I’ll buy any more items from them, however.

hes just blown de laurentiis reason for not wanting him out of the water. de la needs to tune in and bring him back. absolutely no one has said its a bad idea for fabio to go home apart from de la.
vincent the mars sponsor shirts are from when napoli won the uefa cup and you can get them on ebay.it they are the best retro tpsPosted from

if de laurentiis doesnt sign him for FREE im going to be incredibly pissed off. hes the only man in the world who thinks its a bad idea and hes really digging himself into a deep hole. i dont think he quite understands how much of a hero fabio is and the pride of him playing for napoli again. maybe he should stick making his shit films.
we could have bought him last summer but they thought gargano and blasi would be better? im starting to worry about the logic behind the managment running this club.
f.cannavaro, cigarini and borriello (or players like criscito, d’agostino, quagliarella) in the summer anything less would be a failure

peter, was the shirt an italian xl? because ive bought a shirt from an italian website before and they are a size smaller than US and UK sizes. like my 07-08 napoli shirt is an xxl but its actually only a UK xl

Hey, Alex. The one I ordered was an Italian XL, but they sent me an Italian L, which is equivalent to a US M or S. I can usually fit into an Italian XL, but never an Italian L. Pitty, it’s a pretty cool GK shirt. Has padding on the sleeves at the elbows and forearms. I’ve never had a problem with that site before. Their merchandise is high quality.
I can’t beleive Napoli would let Milan acquire F. Cannavaro. This is crazy. Does Donadoni have any input as to who the team acquires?

He better! Why else would he accept the position?
Canna per Napul!

good god we have absolutely no quality at all. genoa get bocchetti, motta and milito we get aronica, pazienza and denis. pia is a serie b striker hes just plain shite. what was marino doing last summer we could of had bocchetti, cigarini and iaquinta?!!! they better sign some good fucking players because the team is just the epitome of mediocrity

I can’t believe that Z-Donkey and Denis the menace both scored!!! And in the same game!! In the same Month!!!! Oh my Gosh!!!
I was hoping to get at least a point out of this game and we did. Some progress so far, and if Rusotto can play over a scrub like Pee boy, it would be so sweeeet.
And we need Fabio C. just to give Santacroce a lesson on how to defend without fouling!
Forza Napul!!!

oh yeah, and we need Iezzo back

“However, I believe Napoli are going in a completely different direction to that Cassano is taking,” De Laurentiis concluded.
surely the direction the team needs to be going is cassano?! hes one of the top 5 players in the world! im not enjoying de laurentiis ideas for what players need to be brought in this summer and it is make or break for him and marino.
criscito, cigarini and borriello all are top class, affordable and in line with de la’s vision of what he wants the team to be which is young.
at least he apologised to f.cannavaro but thats not good enough. literally everyone in the civilised world thinks its a good idea to bring him to a team which has a serious problem with discipline and leadership. hopefully donadoni will see this and request he gets him on a FUCKING FREE!Posted from

and if he signs one more unproven, overpriced, overrated foreigner then im going to give up on this team its bad enough being a boro fan watching shit week in week out de la needs to inject some quality, league proven italians bigtime
Posted from
United States

-

I heard that! Freakin’ no more stranieri!!!
We don not get the top class ones like Kaka, RVN, Messi, Tevez, etc…. so better to just get hungry Italians. Look at Macheda yesterday–sad to see him in England, but he knows he will just get loaned out to Sassuolo or something in Italia

really should say a point away to sampdoria was excellent although the team played a very dirty game, santacroce should of been sent off a couple of times. hes got the talent but he really needs a lesson in discipline.
the goal macheda scored was unbelievable. not just skill wise (although he clearly has amazing technique), but the fact he was brought on when they were losing and had the eye of the tiger bigtime. scoring the winning goal in a game to win man utd the league?! at 17?! looks like he has a big future ahead of him.
what im hoping now as napoli are in serie a, we can start focusing on the youth academy because if you think of all the players that would have been brought in if it wasnt for serie c1 (bocchetti, criscito, nocerino, quagliarella, borriello) napoli would have a quality team full to the brim of neapolitans.Posted from

Yeah, then we would still loan them out prob. The Italian attitude on this has got to change.
