Quagliarella to Napoli?

By: Neil | May 29th, 2009

When Udinese President Giampaolo Pozzo claims that Napoli are leading the way to sign Castellamare di Stabia native Fabio Quagliarella, it’s more than just a rumour. Pozzo employed Napoli d.s. Pier Paolo Marino at Udinese for years and the two could not have a better working relationship. Then there’s Quagliagol himself. The striker, more than other Napoli natives, has repeatedly expressed his desire to play for the Partenopei. But as usual, things are not straightforward. The 26 year old is in the prime of his career, and other teams besides Napoli are after his services.

Juventus and Roma are reportedly trying to sign Quagliarella, and Pozzo values the player at around E25 million, about the same as Diego. Napoli has apparently offered E13 million plus the remaining half of defender Maurizio Domizzi. The bottom line is this: Pozzo is a sharp President, and he won’t do Napoli any favours by selling Quagliarella for anything less than full value. Quagliarella’s desire to play for Napoli will be a factor, but until this move happens I’d say it’s almost too good to be true. Quagliagol is a full Italy international, and with big clubs looking to add him Napoli might be outbid. But there’s plenty of reason to be hopeful.

Where will the money for Quagliarella come from? The Lavezzi to Liverpool rumours won’t go away. The latest rumour has Liverpool offering E20 million plus defender Andrea Dossena for Lavezzi. This is about as good a deal as Napoli can get. E20 million would help finance the capture of Quagliarella plus maybe Cigarini as well, and in Dossena the club is getting an Italy international with experience at a big, big club in Liverpool. Dossena wasn’t a regular for Liverpool this year, but his time abroad should serve him well when returns to the peninsula.

One other story is worth a mention. Keeper Nico Navarro has stated his desire to remain a Napoli player. Navarro has been excluded from recent Argentina squads, and I think he’s realized that if he wants to make La Seleccion he has to grow up and play consistently well every week. If you look at his recent performances, many of the goals he’s conceding are from penalties or unstoppable shots. Even though the club questions his attitudes, I’ve seen enough promise to want to keep him. I have doubts about Iezzo’s ability to stay injury free.

thats some serious shit lavezzis agent is saying. de laurentiis isnt answering his calls? im still undecided with el pocho, hes 24 and his end product is still questionable.

strikers always cost a stupid amount. if quags joins for 25m and scores the types of goals he is renowned for i say hes worth every penny. his technique is incredible, how he can strike a ball is beautiful. just imagine him infront of the san paolo

If Lavezzi’s agent is talking shit, and we can get 20 mill+ Dossena, I say do it. I have stated I like Lavezzi, but am kind of resigned to the fact we have to sell.

If we really are getting Quags and Cigarini, I will be STOKED!! Fantastic !

With those 2, we could be looking at this for next season
    Navarro
    Dossena, Santacroce, Cannavaro,Aronica
    Maggio, Hamsik, Cigarini, Mannini
    Quags, Denis

I still wouldn’t mind trading the Denis spot with Boriello, and selling Hamsik and getting maybe Zapata or Lugano

“Zapata or Lugano”- i really dont want any more southern americans unless they are extra special. no doubt zapata is a talent but he would be mega expensive.

dossena is a left back and maggio would play on the right, such a shame hes been injured for this long.

denis cant be a starter next season hes clearly not up to the task. if quags comes in and lavezzi leaves de la will definitely buy another striker. there is talk of palladino again as well which would be brilliant. he has all the minerals to be a top player. an attacking trident of quagliarella-borriello-palladino would be amazing

I just think Lugano and Zapata at least are proven commodities. I also want more homies, but if we can pick up a few, proven S. American players it would be alright.

Yeah, and Zapata would be pretty expensive, but Lugano would be on a free.

I also forgot about Vitale. I think he will only get better and can be a breakthrough player next season if shown some faith.

even if they are proven, more s.americans could upset the locker room even more if all the reports from the season have any truth behind them.

if cigarini and quags join that will be amazing. if lavezzi leaves then obivously someone else will have to be bought, unless quags is his replacement. another striker will have to be brought in along with quags if lavezzi leaves. acquafresca would of been perfect except de la doesnt think so. borriello should be top priority if thats the case.

all thats left is a defender and obviously i would take bocchetti or criscito, but thats never going to happen so bellusci would be spot on. apparently de la wants 3-4 quality players so who knows what other players will join.

with the money de la is spending on quags and cigarini alone, it shows he has seen he needs to open his wallet for top talent and isnt just wasting it on more average players.

Hamsik, Cigarini in the middle, isn’t bit unbalanced?? for a 4-4-2 formation? Anyways, can’t believe Roma did not sign the player. He is clearly the player that Roma needs.

donadoni wants 4-3-3, so if hamsik stays it will be

    hamsik-cigarini-gargano/blasi

if palermo dont get into europe next season i think nocerino should be a target. marino wanted him for this season but he was included in the amauri deal

well the whole team played quality. very impressed with vitale i think after todays performance he can be the starting left back next season. dont know what was going on in the san paolo the fans must of been demonstrating

even better quagliarella and cigarini got a goal each lets hope they can pick it out for napul!

finally he stays. im happy if he does but he still doesnt deserve 3m a year. and he has to seriously improve his end product.

with torino getting relegated and donadoni preferring a 4-3-3 formation de la should make a cheeky bid for rosina. if he signed for napoli a combo of lavezzi-quagliarella-rosina would be ansolutely lethal

What the f@ck is with the ‘fans’?? Last game of the season, we might be bringing in some quality, we are in Serie A again, and they act like a bunch of C!NTS!

Wake up and be grateful! I am glad we got a win, might be getting some quality players, and Lavezzi might be staying.

Bravo Napul for ending on highnote!

Kiss my backside to the so called fans!

    Hi, everyone!
Im absolutely delighted with the secure 3-0 victory against Chievo to end this season. Although Chievo saved themselves against relegation last week and didnt have much to play for, the SSC-players looked decisive when on the ball having a desire to win the game.
Its a massive confidence-boost for the players and Mr. Donadoni.
The way some of the fans behaved yesterday, well I dont have words to describe how angry I am with those attitudes.
It would be fantastic to see an effective 4-3-3 formation next season with our best players remaining and adding another 3 class-players. Then we could finally remove the last Serie C and Serie B-players from the squad. Thats the most important agenda for SSC this summer. It will simply cost us way too many points to play the reserves like we´ve seen this season.
Having a handful of strong and skilled substitution-possibilities means more points when our first-teams players are out due to injuries.
Im very excited about the coming days on the transfer-market. Have a nice day!

its official! absoluty ecstatic with quags joining. mr dreamgoal himself!

“We will sign other players. It will be a prestigious transfer campaign,”

i wonder who marino has in his sights. cigarini is a must the goal he scored against inter was amazing he has wonderful technique.

“Napoli è la quarta piazza in Italia e la sensazione che la squadra diventi una delle più grandi del calcio è molto diffusa tra gli addetti ai lavori.”

thats from amelias agent. doubt he would leave palermo for another team, apart from roma, but you never know

apparently marino is interested in rodrigo palacio as well. a big NO to that hes 27 and hasnt played outside of argentina, hes clearly not good enough for europe or he would be playing here by now. no more argentines until the ones we have prove they are capable

what on earth is going on with el pocho?! de la and marino have always claimed he wont be sold but they wont even talk to him? i still dont think he deserves a better contract though, he should earn it.

hypothetically if de la can afford quags and cigarini out of his own pocket, if lavezzi is sold, i wonder if he will go for a top player? i suppose he will have to. with del neri taking over samp i imagine cassano will be leaving as the two dont get on…
