Alan, my take on your question is purely tactical.
Our formation’s, 3-5-2, main strength is the ability to quickly change from defense to attack and attack to defense. The midfielders’ main responsibility is to orchestrate this by winning the ball back. Behrami is a master at this, although he can not do much else, and excels in Mazzarri’s formation. Thus, we are set up to defend well then counterattack quickly. This is why we were so dangerous in CL. The Chelsea game is a perfect example- we didn’t dominate play by any means but our counterattacks were deadly.

Now bring this formation and mindset against teams that are much worse than us. These teams want to sit back and defend and give us the ball.
Meanwhile, on the field we have:
    3 central defenders
    2 outside backs
    1 defensive mid
    1 all around mid (inler)
    1 playmaker
    1 second striker
    1 striker.
Hence not much avenue for creation when there are 6 defensive minded players trying to create attacks through passing.
Next, when Mazzarri changes formations in these games to a 4 man backline, we seem to step it up a notch and almost always become more dangerous- he takes off a defender and puts on an attacker.
    Now we have
    2 center backs
    2 outside backs
    1 defensive mid
    1 all around mid
    1 playmaker
    2 supporting strikers or wingers
    1 striker
Not only is there 1 more avenue for chance creation, but it takes off a useless 3rd defender and moves it forward up the pitch. How many time do we see Campagnaro pushing up in these games? He always either loses the ball, falls over, or sends in a terrible cross. Replacing him with an attacker and more creativity comes into play.

I think you’re absolutely right, Steve. It’s the mindless devotion to the 3-man defense and the same tired, old defenders that costs us. One good thing to come out of Paolo’s suspension is that Britos has been given a chance to get some steady playing time. After an inauspicious first start, I think he’s shown that he may have actually been worth the fee we paid for him. I thought he played well yesterday.

Does anyone know when we can expect to hear about the results of the appeal on the suspensions and the point deduction? Sure would be nice to get those points back, not to mention the Skipper.

Jesus Christ…it’s never easy for Napoli to just buy a player. These damn image rights thing is going to kill us.

Napoli’s negotiations for Udinese midfielder Pablo Armero appear to have hit a stumbling block with reports of an offer from Anzhi.

The Colombian has been on the verge of completing his transfer to Naples for some time and he was expected to sign on Monday.

According to today’s reports, there are two different issues holding up the move. The first is with regards to clauses over image rights in the contract with Napoli.

The second problem is an offer from Russian club Anzhi, where Armero could join Samuel Eto’o.

“Both clubs offered a contract to the player,” his agent Rolim Carmo was quoted as telling Russian newspaper Izvestia.

“Now the player must evaluate them and decide whether to stay in Italy or go to Russia. Everything will be decided by the end of this week.”

This might clear some things ….The words attributed to reporter MariaGrazia De Chiara are as follows…
DE LAURENTIIS HA DECISO: NESSUN INVESTIMENTO PER LA DIFESA

After a “supper meeting” among the three decision makers for our squad, it was decided that all purchases would be halted, and the only window to allow Neapolitan Sun to shine through would be a window displaying players designated to be on loan.
If I allow myself the luxury of speculation these, I would include as factors.
    a) An early pardon for our prisoners, along with that, the restitution of sequestered ammo( 2 Cannons).
    b) The resignation of Mazzarri effective June 2013
The latter of course is, would, or could, be a dream come true….But hey when things start going our way, lets aim for the whole and nothing less….
    Forza Napoli !!!!!

When I was young it was the bar and the barbershop that had all the news you wanted. Today in Naples I would bet that it is still the most entertaining way to be informed. What a model !!

Question…sicne Armero played for Udinese, I’m assuming that he can not play for Napoli in the El correct?

Probably right on the EL. Finally a left sided wing back (that isn’t Dossena).

    @Luigi!!

I am very happy with Calaio. He can score!!Astori is too expensive,I think we will probably get a left footed defenceman (not a big name however)!!That will probably it for this transfer market…

Calaio….going to feel weird see the archer in a napoli shirt again. Good back up signing! The guy has an emotional attachment to the shirt and he give his all! Five strikers, surely Vargas will be sent out on loan. Need astori, neto or preferably bochetti!
