Napoli vs. Pescara

By: Neil | December 1st, 2012

De Sanctis – Gamberini, Canna, Britos – Maggio, Inler, Behrami, Zuniga – Hamsik – Insigne, Cavani. There’s no doubt Pescara has some good young players, but this one should be automatic. Not only were Pescara a surprise promotion (not so much a surprise the second half of last season) but they also lost three of their top players in Verratti, Insigne, and Immobile. Pescara are currently tied for last and will need a miracle of Castel di Sangro proportions to stay up – hope everyone is familiar with the Joe McGinniss book about the Abruzzese team. Note: this one is the lunch time kickoff, so rise early if you’re in North America!

correct Neil…at the time of watching i thought it was a harsh red, but it was last man and cavani surely would have scored 6 yards out.

I have being underlining a few incidents with DeSanctis. Am I concerned invalidly here?
I find that his reflexes are a tadd slower than his top form.

De Sanctis has lost his form alright, he has become a little boy in the box, dosent come for crosses and has his posisitioning all wrong when the crosses do come into the box, thats why we see so many headers being scored and him just watching them go by. plus his kicking is terrible….

Does any one have a brief note on the stats for goalis in the other teams in our neighbourhood ? Just curious ?

To bad Rosati is worse. While De Sanctis watches headers go in, Rosati is to busy taking a nap to notice.

De Sanctis is not the problem… some of these headed goals are unstoppable. Bjarnarson’s goal was just inside the post and no goalie would have saved it.

Sure, there’s the odd goal where De Sanctis could have done a little more. But you can say that about the best keepers in the world – Casillas, Buffon, Neuer, Hart etc.

I wouldn’t put De Sanctis in the same class as those above, but he’s done much more for Napoli than most people thought when he was first signed. Plus, he’s made us forget the great Gennaro Iezzo, who was a first class Serie A keeper when he was at his best form.

San Gennaro was 5 years too early. Playing with Napoli now, he would’ve given Buffon a run for his money.

DeSanctis is not the most athletic keeper, not the smartest keeper, doesn’t have the best hands, but he gets the job done. Sometimes he looks awkward comimg out for high balls. Also, I can never remember him making a fantastic diving save. All that said, he rarely makes mistakes. He saves everything that you would expect a keeper to get to and doesn’t give up bad rebounds.

I sure hope that my concern was unfounded. There was a long stretch when we went without having goals scored on. I am at a loss indicating that time frame, that was a period that he was on top form. I started calling him Spirito DeSanctis. Its just that a couple of times I saw him get on the field as the camera pans in and his face looked like he hadn’t slept well the night and sure enough it shows up in his performance. I hope its all just an error of judgment on my part, I know that now in the final stretch we need him at his best form.

    Quote from El Presidente
” Io e Mazzarri la pensiamo allo stesso modo, ogni partita va giocata con concentrazione, basta una minima distrazione come quella di Aronica per perdere una partita. Bisogna concentrarsi partita per partita, solo così si può dire di aver lavorato bene».
Can this be as they say in literary school , foreshadowing…. a moment too late….for the walking papers of Aronica….

I like Napoli, and it’s good to have a blog based purely on them. If they can hold onto players like Hamsik and then they are definitely going places. 5 years and they could be up there fighting for the Scudetto.

Roberto Insinge called up to the squad for the PSV game. Hopefully he’ll get some minutes seeing as Pandev wont be risked unless we’re losing.

But, Cavani is set to start tomorrow. Blows my mind. Really makes no sense!

Reason for cavani starting was that he needs continuity to stay on top form. Thank goodness cavaliens don’t tire as easy as humans.
Juve through to the knockout stages has to increase our chances of winning the scudetto.

Mario you are right. The chatter is that Cavani begged Mazzarri to let him play. Mazzarri said that he made Cavani happy .

Cavani will get 60 minutes…to keep his momentum going. He is a machine….but I’d rather him not play this one with Inter coming up.

I hope Roberto Insigne comes on! Could be a glimpse into the future with the Insigne brothers up front.

This group is getting more fscniaating by the gameweek. What with Villareal seemingly out of contention, it looks like we’re set-up for a terrifically exciting three-way tussle. Napoli, obviously, are a counter attacking side and it could be their ability (or inability) to adjust to new situations which decides whether or not they go through. As ZM mentioned, in today’s game they made that adjustment fairly well pressing to good effect after going behind.Great stuff ZM!
