Napoli vs. BolognaBy: Neil | December 15th, 2012
As we head towards the January mercato off the field issues are starting to move to the forefront. Aronica is already confirmed as leaving for Palermo, while Dossena might not be far behind him in exiting the club. Normally I wouldn’t be too bothered by losing fringe players – in fact, Aronica should have been made a fringe player halfway through last year – but both are left footed defensive players, leaving a hole on Napoli’s left side. Let’s hope Britos can stay healthy because right now there’s nobody reliable to replace him long term. Note: this is a regular Serie A round and not the 5th round of the Coppa Italia which also has Bologna visiting the San Paolo. That fixture will be played just three days later on December 19th. I don’t think Bologna is even going to leave town.
De Sanctis – Gamberini, Cannavaro, Britos – Maggio, Behrami, Inler, Zuniga – Hamisk – Cavani, Insigne
Based on the first four months, I’m not sure if Napoli can compete with Juve for the scudetto. I’m hoping the team can finish anywhere from 2nd to 4th, and that would be an improvement on last season. Time for Napoli to make smarter buys in the market… however, Mazzarri seems to have all the power. There is no point in Bigon buying a player if Mazzarri is not going to use him properly. So there is a discord between the kinds of players that De Laurentiis/Bigon would like to buy, and the players that Mazzarri is actually going to use. If Campagnaro leaves in June, there will be a chance to remake the defence entirely.
Prediction: Napoli 3 Bologna 2
