Napoli home matches available for viewing!…sort of
By: Joe | October 24th, 2007
When SerieA.tv announced they were going to broadcast all Serie A matches (on-demand and live) over the ‘net, I eagerly plopped down my cash and awaited a season of interrupted Azzurri glory. Even the opportunity to do some advance scouting on upcoming opponents held some intrigue.
A teeny-weeny problem popped up when we were told the rights to Napoli home matches were not included. It seems our dear President is playing hardball and not allowing anyone to broadcast matches from the San Paolo outside Italy. You’ll notice RAI International and Fox Soccer Channel lineups won’t include any of Napoli’s home matches. We had the same issue last year, however, being in Serie B your options are limited so many were content to just listen to the radio stream.
It turns out Zio Aurelio was holding out because he plans on broadcasting the matches through Napoli’s official website. Napoli is gauging interest in viewing the remaining home matches (streamed and on-demand) for $70. They are looking for at least 100,000 subscribers before they launch the service. If you are interested, please go here. There is no current obligation as the bigwigs are simply trying to gauge consumer interest. The plan is to start airing matches beggining with the November 25th match against Catania.

De Laurentiis — typical neapolitan.

I can’t bring myself to say a bad word about the man. If he can bring in revenues to the club and put the squad on somewhat a more even level than the big boys, I’m all for it. Typical napoletano, how? I know we’re loud, sometimes crude and ill tempered and fiercely loyal. I don’t see a problem with it.

this is a great business and forward looking move: it would bring clean revenues in (with no cuts to SKY / Mediaset junta) and will maximize the international support for the team.

Man, I wish Dempsey. My wife wouldn’t go for the keggerator idea but I haven’t tried this approach yet. Food for thought though.

perhaps he shouldn’t charge 70$… kinda steep when your able to watch the away matches for free… Mayble zio should just run ad’s from Dino’s latest movies, some ad space might bring ease costs… then those 100,000 viewers are a piece of cake…(neapolitan ice-cream cake that is)
or maybe 70$ is a lot for me cause im still in school. fuck i dont know… anyways you guys are dead come saturday!

Bring it on, Roberto. I can’t wait for Saturday…mainly because it’ll mean I’ll no longer be in Amarillo, TX on business. Good God, talk about a cultural cesspool. I think $70 is worth it as it’ll wind up being a little less than $6 a match. Given that until last year, my only option was to listen to radio broadcasts streamed over the net, I’ll do whatever it takes.
Juventus-Napoli. Does it get any better? Can’t wait to kick some Old Lady ass, Napoletano-style.
