Napoli – Bologna Live Blog

Juve, Milan, and Udinese all failed to win. Napoli can close the gap on the leaders to 8 points which isn’t too bad considering there’s still half the schedule plus one round left. Interesting note: Chelsea signed Bolton defender Gary Cahill who is eligible for the Champions League.
De Sanctis – Hugo Boss, Canna, Aronica – Maggio, Inler, Gargano, Dossena – Pandemonio, Hamsik – Cavani

Forza Napoli!!

1-1 final… Di Vaio had two great chances to grab a winner the last five minutes. Where were Napoli’s chances? Every cross was headed away or covered by Gillet.

    What a disgrace!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody want to take a guess at the excuses Mazz will come up with?

    5-1 – Blaming the ref

10 – 1 Saying how we were unfortunate

20-1 – Saying how he needs to prepare his team for Champions

1000 – 1 Actually saying he was outcoached and that he needs to do a better job of managing the game.

DeLa has been very quiet…too quiet. I’m curious if he has anything to add.

This is what happens when you run the same offense and other teams start figuring it out.

I hate to tell you Mazz, but we are not coming up with late game winners like we did last year!!

We are 7-7-4 = 28 points. We should NOT have 7 draws!!

i know we are all angry so I dont want to start bashing the team but something is not right. even if these smaller teams have figured us out our players should still be able to break them down. i hope we get a champions league spot or our tenors will most likely be on the way

Mazzari was outchoached again by Pioli……….

with Mascara gone, Santana on the way out and Lucarelli who needs to retire we need to signing up front and someone on the left side……

The CL spot is still possible but it will definately be a hard task to accomplish……

    Tom,

If we continue to play like this, I HIGHLY doubt we can get the 3rd spot. Had we won today we would have been only 5 points behind 3rd (Udinese) for that spot. Now we are 7.

I agree about our players being able to break the other team down, but its Mazz job to be able to make in-game adjustments. Isn’t that what separates the good coaches from the great?

Come on!! REALLY we are bringing on Luccarelli who I don’t think has played 37 seconds this season. We just signed Vargas, I would rather put him out there, then Luccarelli.

What a frustrating first half of the season.

We now travel to Siena to end the first half. If we tie we will be at 29 points after 19 games, not even at the 30 point mark.

Right now we are just way too inconsistent. I’m baffled at how we can look incredible against Milan and then so mediocre against Cesena and Bologna.

Tom, I don’t think we’re team bashing at all. Nobody is really faulting the players – we’re simply pointing out that Pioli had better tactics than Mazzarri, and it’s not the first time a weaker team has stopped Napoli from winning by using smarter tactics.

Napoli was physically faster and stronger than Bologna, and had more skill. DeLa’s money has bought a really good roster of players who should outplay almost every other Serie A team. But we struggle against so many smaller teams for tactical reasons.

when i said bashing i wasn’t directing it at anyone so please do not take it the wrong way. i do agree with your all points but can mazzarri adopt new tactics mid season if he doesn’t already have them? my knowledge of formations and tactics comes from fifa which isn’t exactly real

To beat or draw Napoli away…it’s pretty simple..score first and throw the whole team behind the ball.

I love crossing the ball in…we have some deadly finishers…but 95 % of the crosses are poor. They are floaters to the back post which the keeper swallows. Dossena and Maggio were crap today. If we had some players who could wip in some scary balls..we would have a much better chance of scoring. Dossena doesnt have the ability to take on his man and get the cross in! I’d rather Lavezzi take Dossena’s position full time and Vargas/Pandev take Lavezzi’s up front.

    Luigi,
here is one of his excuses its a pretty clever one “Mazzarri also admitted that his squad is a little overstretched at the moment and suffering from fatigue.

“We have so many South Americans who have made long trips during the holidays and then some have come back late …”

On a positive note Vargas looked better for the 10 minutes he got in. Maggio has really been toothless for about the last month or so. Cavani had a poor match, his passing really isn’t that good. It is during a match like this it is evident how important Lavezzi is. He is about the only player able to take on an opponent one on one with pace. I saw a little of that in Vargas.
