Malafemmena news
By: Joe | July 10th, 2008The news keeps coming out out Jennersdorf, Austria where Napoli are conducting their pre-season training.
* Midfielder Daniele Mannini will be out a few weeks as he suffered an injury to his right quadricep when running into defender Fabiano Santacroce. Note: Santacroce was also involved in another teammates injury when he slid into newly-acquired attacker German Denis. The Argentine striker’s injury didn’t slow him down as he bagged a hat trick in Napoli’s first friendly.
Mannini won’t be so lucky. It looks like he may be out for at least a few weeks. Doctors are going to let the swelling in his leg subside before determining next steps. However, at a minimum it appears he’ll be out through the end of the month and will likely miss both legs of our Intertoto match. The options for coach Edy Reja scare the hell out of me. Reja is talking about having either Mirko Savini or Gianluca Grava cover the left-wing
slot in Mannini’s place. There’s been some talk of letting 21-year old Primavera product, and native Napoletano, Luigi Vitale have some playing time but Reja said he’s battling his own injury concerns (I’ve looked but turned up noting in the way of details on Vitale’s injury).
* If Matteo Contini is able to handle the left side of Reja’s three-man backline, and really he’s done nothing to prove he can’t, Reja may decide to move Maurizio Domizzi into that LW spot. Direttore Generale Pier Paolo Marino has been unable to find an acceptable deal for Domizzi and unless something gets done in the next two days, Domizzi is set to join the squad in Austria on Sunday.
For some of the defensive lapses Domizzi showed last year, I’ll take him over Savini and that big-ball-of-suck Grava. The fact that Savini and Grava shared time with the captain’s armband last year is all you need to know about their skills. Apparently, Reja chooses his captain based on who can squander the most scoring chances, who consistently gives up possession and who can provide that ‘locker room presence.’ You tell me how else you explain Roberto Sosa, Francesco Montervino, Savini and Grava getting the majority of time with the captain armband? He’s now settled on defender Paolo Cannavaro as his captain and the bigger, slower, clumsier Canna has kept up the tradition. Not good when your worst player on the starting XI is sporting the armband. I must be missing something.
* Goalkeeper Nicolas Navarro is back with the squad. Apparently the Argentine Olympic team decided they didn’t need a third keeper to set up cones and fetch fresh water for Lionel Messi, Juan Roman Riquelme, Nicolas (who can I sucker punch now?) Burdisso in Beijing. I feel bad for Navarro but at least this forces Marino’s hand and he now really has to peddle away either Matteo Gianello or Genarro Iezzo. There was rumor of Navarro drawing the short straw and getting sent out on loan, but I don’t buy it. Marino spent 4 million euro on the youngster this January and he played tremendously the last three matches of the season. Look for Gianello to be sold off here shortly.
* The friendly scheduled against Argentine giants Boca Juniors in early August is in jeopardy according to Le Nacion newspaper in Argentina. It would really be a shame if the match doesn’t take place as I think it’s the type the game that can grease the wheels for bringing in additional South American players. Reports are the friendly would be replaced either with a trip to Holland or Spain against Atletico Madrid. I’d still rather play Boca Juniors at the San Paolo.
* Tomorrow’s friendly against Croatian powerhouse HNK Hajduk Spalato will provide a clearer picture as to where we stand. The squad has won 17 championships (9
when they were part of Yugoslavia) and has had some storied players including Slaven Bilic. HNK Hajduk played Fiorentina in last years Intertoto Cup and lost 2-1 on aggregate. They’ll be playing Malta side Birkirkara in a two legged UEFA Cup tie on July 17 & 31.

That’s why I sometimes post as “Joe Ginto” versus “Joe.” Thanks for the clarification, Joseph. Listen, I don’t use that language mainly because my kids read this blog. I’m not saying that in any way to try and curb anyone else’s language, just stating a fact.

I will take it easy on the wordage for the kids sake. But when I am posting on the roma forum I can’t hold back. I hope you understand. That Adam sucker pissed me off. A little warm blooded I am. Just wait if fsc doesn’t show at least 10 Napoli games this year I am gunna go absolutly mad. I hate using the computer to see the games. I would rather be at the local Irish pub drinking peroni on tap. Mmmm good! Right on the beach in Jacksonville Florida. That’s where you can find me Adam. Haha!

Adam, I’m not sure what you’re trying to start, but if it happened somewhere else, there’s no need to bring it here.

Hey, I was wondering if any one knows if RAI international will be showing Napoli home games this year? I’m quite tired of having to watch these scum bag interist, and ladri juventini every sunday. Also i was wondering if any one knows if there is some kind of website that shows live Napoli games on the computer. Last year I read that our wonderful presidente, Aurellio Delaurentiis, was in California when Napoli played Parma and was able to watch the game on the computer. How the hell did he do that? I tried to see if I could get a SKY sattalite here in florida and was told that it wasn’t possible. We can send a man to the moon, but we can’t get SKY sattalite pragramming. Any way if you guys know any of my questions I’d appreciate it because at this point I’m about to move to italy at my dad’s house so I can watch some games. Any way, I am very excited about Napoli this year and I hope we do well. I do wish that Marino could have found a new manager, I’m not to sure about Reja for a team like Napoli che vuole fare uno salto di qualita. I am happy that they are going after some good young talent but I don’t understand why Marino and Delaurentiis are so against buying one or two already confirmed super stars. Any way I guess that they know better than me. Ciao a tuuti, e come sempre FORZA NAPOLI.

Miele I watch the games on SerieA.com but it cost money. Plus it is impossible to get home games because of some rights issue. i dunno everyone has looked around about it but no one knows why. I am flyng over there just to see 2 matches in Napoli. but i am waiting for the final schedule. maybe catch a nice Wed match. My family is in Salerno. I know they are rivals but growing up over here i could never watch Saleritana Games. I cheer for both of them. Even though they want to kill each other. Dont hold it against me everyone.

Hi all,
I have a question about a Napoli player that I got no answer for anywhere else, and thought you guys might be able to help. Does anyone know if Napoli refused to release Fabiano Santacroce to be part of the National Olympic team? I’m asking because I have noticed that he wasn’t included in the list of the 22 players called by Casiraghi.Posted from

santacroce is suspended for 3 matches because he receive a red card against the faroe islands and he wouldn’t have been able to play until the quarter finals.

Michel,I was shocked he wasn’t selected because IMO he is one of the best young defenders. Thanks for the clarification. Was being to think Casiraghi lost his mind.

Hey great to have another Joe on board. Just post with the first letter of your surname. We have Joe G, Joe C so it gets a little confusing. (especially for Lisa just kidding Lisa) Joe G rights the articals. Joe C which is I has the foul mouth. I think goal TV might be showing some of the games for the intertoto I have to check there schedule. I know fsc probably won’t.

I was looking on goal TVs schedule and they are showing something but it is in spanish on my program guide. I know the game is the 19th so I guess we will have to see. If not I will be sitting at the computer.

Joe C, I resemble that remark!

Joe A, all the Napoli sites I’ve checked say the dates are July 20 and 26. (It would be helpful if the UEFA Intertoto site would stop telling us the results of the second round and tell us the match dates/times for the third round!)Posted from

A source on the internet says David Suaso from Inter might be are next signing. I think that is how you spell it. The mully! He is pretty good. We need some solid signing for defense, suaso is a striker. it seems like you only hear about the strikers we want.

Just checked wiki and it says the games are 20 and 27. I am so confused! Let’s just win and then we can all agree on are first UEFA cup match is. Sound good? Can’t wait for the season to start. It looks like we got a nice little crew here.
Other note sad news for southern Calcio messina is going to need a prayer to stay alive. Sorry to them and there fans. Big loss for all of us southern people. Remember always. The South Will Rise Again!
