Lecce vs. Napoli: Giornata 35
By: Neil | May 9th, 2009This is an important game. Not because it’s against another southern team. Not because our winless streak on the road is so bad that I’d really like to forget about it. It’s important because Napoli gave a weak effort last Sunday and Lecce will be playing for their Serie A lives. Last time these teams met in December Napoli played one of their better games of the season and cruised to a 3-0 victory. Things have changed in the last five months, as Napoli’s season has fallen apart and both clubs have changed managers.
Back in March, one day before Reja was let go, Lecce replaced Mario Beretta with Gigi Di Canio, ironically a former Napoli manager. Beretta was in his first season at Lecce after replacing Giuseppe Papadopulo in the offseason. Papadopulo is now at Bologna, having replaced Mihajlovic who earlier in the season replaced the sacked Daniele Arrigoni. I find this yearly merry-go-round of coaching changes very amusing, and at the end of last season I sent my brother – not really a football fan – a list of the Serie A coaching changes, and he could not stop laughing. With Bologna, Torino, and Reggina all changing coaches twice this season, I may notify my brother again, especially since Reggina’s second manager, Giuseppe Pillon, lasted just over one month before they fired him and brought back Nevio Orlandi who was fired to make way for Pillon.
OK, back to Lecce now. Has the coaching change worked? Yes and no. No because Lecce are still in relegation trouble and may not make it. Yes, because the team is playing some of their best calcio of the year. Two weeks ago they defeated Catania 2-1 at home, and they followed that win with a 2-2 draw away to Juve last week. Prior to the Catania win they lost away to Roma 3-2, so they are making a huge push for la salvezza. The recent good form may have more to do with desperation rather than an improvement in tactics and strategy, but any way you look at it playing teams in a relegation battle at this time of year is not easy.
Lecce’s top scorer both last season and this season is Simone Tiribocchi. His eight goals this season are one fewer than the nine that Hamsik and Denis, Napoli’s top scorers. are stuck on. He’ll be joined in attack by the Ivorian Axel Cedric Konan. But other players are also chipping in goals in recent weeks. Jose Castillo scored the equalizer against Juve, Gianni Munari scored against both Roma and Catania, and backup striker Dmitrios Papadopoulos found the net against Roma. Midfielder Munari has a shoulder problem and will likely start on the bench. Other absences include Daniele Cacia, Vittorio Antunes, the Brazlian Angelo, and Papa Waigo.
Defensively Lecce have not been very good, but with their season on the line they should tighten up at the back.
Lecce probable lineup: Benussi – Polenghi, Fabiano, Esposito, Ariatti – Giacomazzi, Edinho, Vives, Caserta – Konan, Tiribocchi
Napoli is still without Lavezzi, whose suitors include Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Realistically I can’t see him going to either of these teams, but the rumours are fun to discuss. Pia and Denis are almost guaranteed 90 minutes each up front – I can’t imagine Zalayeta playing for Napoli again – so they should play a relaxed game, knowing that one error will not bring about a substitution. Vitale is back from injury, but takes a seat on the bench.
Napoli probably lineup: Navarro – Santacroce, Cannavaro, Contini – Montervino, Blasi, Amodio, Hamsik, Mannini – Denis, Pia
Here are the highlights from the 3-0 match at the San Paolo last December. Watching this video is a bit nostalgic for me: at that time Napoli was still flying high, and the run of bad form would start the following week with a dismal 1-0 loss to Torino. It’s hard to believe Hamsik has only scored twice since then.
Even though Napoli isn’t in danger of being relegated, I’m expecting a relegation type battle in this game. I guarantee Donadoni will not put up with the kind of effort Napoli showed last week two weeks in a row. Napoli have to come out fighting. Lecce are currently second from bottom, two points away from Torino in the safety zone. Lecce arguably don’t need a win, but with games left against Fiorentina and Genoa this might be a good chance to make a big move.
Catch the game on a live internet stream at rojadirecta.org or atdhe.net. Forza Napoli, and I’ll be back afterwards with a recap and highlights.

Neil, I read that Don and Z made up, and that Z is going to make the trip to Lecce. So he could conceivably find his way onto the pitch. Hate to see Lecce go down with Bari now promoted. Would have made for some expolsive maches next season.
Neil, or anybody else, have any of you guys had a trouble getting streams from Rojadirecta or atdhe?

to answer your question from the previous post peter, floro flores is from naples and started his career playing for napoli. he left during all the financial troubles.
atdhe works most of the time, but the best website for streams is myp2p.eu it always has napoli games but you might have to download uusee.
im going for a 1-0 victory for lecce i just cant see napoli putting in anymore decent performances away from home. last week was disgusting and with pia upfront i have no faith at all. is russotto injured neil?

and good god d’agostino must be worth 30m the form he is in! if hes willing to join napoli (if inter dont by him) de la has to go balls out for him, hes perfect or what the team needs

Peter, I’m going to be really upset if Zala sees the pitch. I’m all for people resolving conflict, but I think he should have a bench role the rest of the year. You’re right, though, he could come on as a sub.
Alex, Russotto was injured last week and didn’t make the bench. He’s part of the squad for Lecce, and he’ll start on the bench. Don doesn’t seem very eager to give him playing time.
I’ve had lots of problems with feeds since I started watching live streaming, but since it’s free I’m not going to complain. Watching 3/4 of a choppy feed is still better than following live score updates.
If anyone has suggestions for improving the quality of live streaming, drop us a line.

Pazzini, Pazzini, wherefore art though Pazzini?
Oh yeah, I begged for Napoli to get him , but noooooooo we were set with ZDonkey and Denis the Menace. We all know how that has gone.
Oh well, no use crying over spilt jack daniels, so on to tomorrow’s game.
Since I can’t see us getting more than 1 goal, I will goal for a 1-1 draw.

apparently floccari AND acquafresca will be joining genoa. i hope acquafresca doesnt go he would fit into napoli very well. if thats the case i really dont know what striker we can sign. borriello wont leave milan unless they sign another striker. the only other name that i would be delighted with is quaglirella he would fit into the 4-3-3 and score some amazing goals

WOW… Don made a lot of changes to the starting lineup.
3-5-2 with Pia and Denis up front.
Midfield is Mannini on the right, Pazienza and Datolo in the middle, Vitale on the left, and Bogliacino in front of the back three.

well all in all a good first half. soft penalty against us but if denis wasnt such a menace we would be 2 or 3-0 up. is the team playing better without hamsik and lavezzi? i think so. the difference is datolo passed to pia for the goal whereas lavezzi would of tried to do it himself and missed.
impressed with vitale as well if he keeps improving he can be a real good player for napulPosted from

Thanks Alex. I finally got the feed from justin.tv/azzurronapoli2. Pretty good stream. I’ve had problems with rojadirecta. It’ll give me the stream in a small box in the corner of my monitor and then when I click to enlarge to the full screen I get all these ads around the stream and can barely see it. Then it sputters and stalls. But this stream is good–and full screen, too. Got it just in time to catch Pia` ’s goal. Then I finished my cup of coffee, went upstairs to get another cup, heard the announcers going crazy but couldn’t run downstairs because I had a full cup of scalding hot coffee in my hand. Turns out I missed Lecce’s rigore!

The Papadopoulos shot was really close to being over the line… Navarro made a great stop

whats his fucking problem with russotto?!!! if he leaves at the end of the season im going to be fuming. hamsik has been shite all season and he puts him on for pia?!! what about denis hes been awful today. again.

Looks like Russotto is coming on

Alex, Hamsik leads the team with 9 goals. How can he have been shite all season? I think starting him on the bench was a good idea because his form has been off. Hopefully it sent a message.

sorry didnt mean all season. the slide started before christmas though

well lecce were unlucky not to win it near the end.
have to say it was a mistake leaving denis on but taking pia off, and not much point putting russotto on with 10mins to go when your under constant pressure. without lavezzi and hamsik the lads played like a proper team, as soon as hamsik came on the concentration and intensity dropped i thought. denis and z donkey have to be 2 of the worst strikers ive ever seen. utterly useless.
to be fair its alot better than last weeks outing and im happy with a point!

As I stated yesterday, I couldn’t see us getting more than 1 goal and we would draw 1-1. Correct!
Good to see sad ass Pia scoring again. Why does sadder ass Denis the menace keep getting a game? He sucks so bad it hurts to watch.. Just go with little Rusotto and Pia upfront and wing it.
Datolo played a decent game, as I thought did Vitale.
At least we didn’t lose
