Lazio 0 Napoli 1: The Aftermath
By: Neil | October 27th, 2008First, here are the highlights of Sunday’s game.
Now everyone is expecting us to compete for the Champions League. Pierpaolo Marino thinks it’s still too early:

Lavezzi of course is talking about the Champions League:
http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=933369
And De Laurentiis is talking about buying new players in January:

But Marino doesn’t want any:
http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=26812
And Reja is happy with our defence:
http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=26781
And to top it all off, the goalkeeping soap opera has continued. Gianello has apparently lost the number two spot to Navarro, who played great against Lazio. With Iezzo injured again, the number two spot is number one for the time being. Now Navarro wants to stay in Napoli because he is no longer number three, while Gianello has reportedly asked for a transfer because he’s now number three and since he can’t really compete for the number one job he has no future here. I don’t really care who plays Wednesday against Reggina, but I’d like to see Navarro against AC Milan. Gianello showed some weaknesses against both Benfica and Genoa, and if Navarro can keep playing like he did against Lazio he’s a better option.
At this point I have no idea who is going to be playing against Reggina. Hopefully Reja will rest most of our starters for the posticipo against Milan next Sunday, but I’m starting to wonder if our attack depends too much on Lavezzi. Last season we struggled against the smaller clubs even with our starters, so if we sit key players then where is our offence going to come from? A lot of our offence relies on a few players, and if we’re going to rest Lavezzi, Hamsik, Maggio, and others I’m worried it’s going to be a repeat of the Bologna game where we struggled to beat a team we should have dominated.
For me the league is shaping up into clear divisions:
Competing for Scudetto: Inter, AC Milan
Competing for Champions League: Napoli, Udinese, Juventus, Fiorentina
Competing for Champions League or Europa League: Lazio, Genoa, Roma
Competing for Europa League: Palermo, Catania, Atalanta
Of course, as Marino said, it’s not until January and early February that teams start to make moves and really push for position. It will be interesting to see how the teams are positioned in February. Will Napoli and Udinese still be near the top? Will Roma pick it up? How good are Genoa? It’s great that Serie A is finally exciting again after some shaky years.
See you next time with a preview of the Reggina game. Forza Napoli!

if napoli keep there form up maybe buy another forward to alternate with lavezzi (nilmar?) you will get champions league calcio next season. and next season with the right signings (marino will buy some amazing players with european league money) napoli will compete for scudetto!

Napoli for champions league and not Roma? like you said, who knows if you can win without your starters, and you can’t really expect them to play every game without showing signs of fatigue and even though Roma are abysmal right now, but soon they’ll pick up the slack and start moving up…at least, I hope so, although I do agree that you guys have a great team, and the CL spots will be really tough to get for any team.

I still think Napul could use another striker since Denis and Zalayeta are not up to it for a CL spot in the long run. Maybe getting somebody like Pazzini or Osvaldo would be ideal.

Also, Maradona was named head coach for AFA. Pretty sweet third gig if you ask me

Except for the fact that he has zero real coaching experience.
With Dunga still leading Brazil, Domenech at France, Maradona at Argentina, Italy has a decent chance of retaining the crown. England is actually one of the few teams that worries me, Capello’s done well there.

Ciao Napoli fans! I’ve lost my home internet connection for the time being. Hopefully I’ll get it back soon.
Here are links to previews for the Reggina match:

It’s unlikely I’ll be able to pickup a live stream tomorrow, so I’ll do a brief summary on Thursday with some comments.

Totally agree Alessio, I don’t think England has the overall quality to take it though. Lord only knows how Domenech has a job. Dunga is a flawed coach who will only take the most hyped players, and Maradona’s only experience is a few weeks a Racing and a few months with another Argentine club. We own Germany head to head. I’m not sold that Spain can have another tournament run like they just had. Thank God we brought back Lippi so that we can have a chance at winning this thing. Donadoni just wasn’t going to get it done. We got some solid young players to mix in with some of the champions on our squad.

Believe it or not, what coincident are we having here.
The Great Diego being named as the new Argentina’s coach. German Denis scores hat-trick against Reggina. Napoli joint leader of Serie A. Looks like the 1980’s is making a comeback.

great seeing Denis starting to get it going, was more active today if he continues a .6 goal per game clip, we should be a MAJOR force.

Beste Napoli Supporters in the Netherlands,
I see many replies coming from Napoli fans in the NL.
I live in Rijswijk and I propose to organize a meeting of the napoli fans in the NL. I invite you for the watching a NAPOLI GAME together at my place (Milan-Napoli, next Sunday night ?). Please contact me in FACEBOOK (Elio Lo Conte) or via mail elio53[at]yahoo.comPosted from

Elio, i think you might be sadly mistaken. The Location-thing over at the Offside doesn’t really work all that good. Because you’re in the Netherlands, you see other people (most of them Americans) with a Dutch flag. I have the same problem as a Belgian.

And another victory, this time against Reggina thanks to a hat-trick from Denis!
Top of the league (together with Udinese), who would’ve thought that…Posted from
