Lavezzi Injured and More Rumours

By: Neil | March 30th, 2009

Napoli and Argentina striker Ezequiel Lavezzi will miss Argentina’s WC Qualifier against Bolivia on Tuesday with a muscular contraction on his left bicep. Lavezzi left for international duty completely healthy and was an unused substitute in Argentina’s 4-0 win over Venezuela. I don’t think this is a serious injury, and he should be ready to go for Napoli on the weekend.

On the Fabio Cannavaro front, it appears that clubs aren’t willing to pay top dollar for a 35 year old who had a major injury in the last year. His contract expires in about two months, and he is having trouble finding a new club for the dollar amount he is seeking. I’m a little bothered by the whole situation. He’s repeatedly expressed his desire to return to Napoli before his career ends. Then why not accept a salary that’s within the club’s wage structure? If not Napoli, where else in Italy can he go? I hope he doesn’t end up in the Middle East or East Asia just for one more big payday. He deserves another shot at the Champions League, but given how difficult it is to win he might have run out of time unless he accepts a supporting role. OK, now I’m reading that Tottenham Hotspurs are interested in Cannavaro. Even if they underachieve, Spurs are still a good club – I think Redknapp is currently the best English manager – but they’re not going to win the Champions League anytime soon.

Napoli is also linked with Valencia midfielder Ever Banega, who is on loan at Atletico Madrid. Reports indicate that Valencia is in a bad financial situation and will be forced to sell some of their assets.

Old rumours are being revived as Racing Santander striker Nikola Zigic and Siena midfielder Daniele Galloppa are also being tracked. Of all the names mentioned since Donadoni took over, Galloppa is the player I think is most likely going to arrive. He fits in with Napoli’s transfer policy of buying younger, up and coming players from smaller teams.

Finally, Donadoni has been pushing the team to show its quality in the nine remaining matches this season. I like how he says there are the best conditions to work under at Napoli. It may be an exaggeration, but at least the Don seems settled in to his new job and likes the long term possibilities. Here is the Italian version of the same story.

Wait, one more thing: Luigi Sepe has been called into the Italy U-19 team Imagine having Marchetti and Sepe on our roster for next year. Eventually one of them would have to be sold. But I’m just dreaming.

    I think Banega is pretty good, but I am just not sold on Napoli spending millions on another Argentine. Even Mourinho at Inter is talking about building an Italian base. Inter with Italians? I know I know

    Better to look at D’Ago for the midfield if you ask me. And Boriello or Quags upfront

    fuck you de laurentiis. clubs that rely on developing players dont work. look at arsenal they have collapsed mentally the last couple of seasons because they have no experience or leadership. same as boro, ive watched them play like schoolboys everytime they have conceded because we have absolutley no experience or leaders on the team. same thing as napoli the second half of the season where is the player firing up the team? where are the experienced players that have a calming influence because they have been there before?
    fabio may be 35 but he can still play top flight football, plus he wouldnt have to play every game like he has for madrid.
    regarding banega, after all the average signings last season i dont think its wise paying over the odds for a 20 year old (who looks feeble) that has failed to play regulary for 2 different teams. for the potential he was supposed to have, seems to me he has flopped. even if he hasnt this team cant afford to take a risk on another player. d’agostino has league, european and national team experience. cigarini has league experience. they are the types of players that are needed as they would dictate tempo and would provide the creativity in the middle.
    look at all the top teams in europe, they have a mix of youth and experienced players and thats what de la should be aiming for.

    marchetti=10m
    grosso=is his contract up? if not 3-4m
    banega=3-8m?
    cigarini=8m+
    cassano=20m
    borriello=10m?

    grand total= around 60m. now that is fantasy football. but….sell hamsik. de la could of got 35m last summer i reckon he could get a price of around 28-30m for him now. cassano would just be perfect for napoli. he would literally be king of the volcano and just imagine how wild the san paolo would be when he did something amazing. no better stage for a lunatic like him

    and neil if marchetti was to join by the time he was 30 luigi would still be 21 (hes 17 right) thats a pup in goalkeeping years. marchetti could stay for 10 years and luigi would still be 27 and ready to take the number 1 spot

    I have to admit the San Paolo would be the perfect stage for Cassano. Imagine him and Lavezzi dancing around opposing defenders??

    I don’t know if we’d get 30m for Hamsik right now.

    maybe not 30m i reckon 25m would be a good price. just enough for cassano! de la can pay for the rest of them. just imagine cigarini playing lovely chip through balls to cassano and lavezzi for them to destroy any defence, with borriello just smashing in goal after goal.

    It makes you wonder who really runs this napoli team. Make no mistake about it, Lavezzi is awesome, but if our transfer policy is based on his happiness, that is complete BS. Stop with the Argentines. The good ones are already in Serie A i.e. Milito and Zarate and the really good ones won’t come to Napoli. Why is is that when Marino was with Udinese he brought in DiNatale, Quags and Flores. Three born Napoletani, where in Napoli we have half a Cannavaro and Don Luigi Vitale, Vafanculo to that shit. Borriello Paladino..hint hint… And one more thing Roma scooped up Marco motta for absolute peanuts when Marino supposedly has a good relationship with Udinese. Down with Uncle Fester’s half brother and De La get serious, if not sell the team and go work on a King Kong trilogy.

    This is interesting – Cassano cannot say enough good things about Donadoni:

    Cassano would be a nice pickup, but I don’t see it happening. I still cannot fathom why we are not trying to bring Fabio C. home. It’s just really really baffling

    watching the under 21 game last night there is so much talent in italy why is it marino is hellbent on bringing in every average argie he can find?! there are more neapolitans in genoa and udinese than napoli. thats really shit. i can understand where de la is coming from regarding cannavaro but then im reminded that he won world player of the year. hes not an average defender hes up there with maldini, baresi, scirea etc plus his experience and leadership would be priceless.

    if they want to focus on youth and dont want to bring back fabio then there is only one player that they can bring in and thats criscito. hes captain of the under 21 team, neapolitan and very versatile. he wont want to go back to juve so it would be stupid not to make a move for him. bring him back, give him the number 6 shirt and let him become our very own legend, the next cannavaro.

    fuck banega why would you want him when you can have nocerino for around the same price, whos shown he has big potential. criscito, nocerino, cigarini and borriello. all affordable and all of them would join.

    neil is there any chance marchetti will stay in cagliari? i dont think any of the big italian team will buy him as they all have quality keepers (milan maybe but galliani is a cheapskate) i reckon he could join next season, maybe earlier if iezzo keeps having injury problems.

    as for cassano if he stayed in sampdoria for another season i dont see any reason if we sign some quality in the summer and do well next season he wouldnt join. who knows he clearly has alot of respect for donadoni if de la is willing to spend the money….he joined sampdoria at the end of the day meaning he wouldnt turn his nose up at napoli

    if de la does not sign him there should be protests in naples. if he cant honestly see the benefits of fabio cannavaro on a free transfer then he actually has no business in owning napoli. hes willing to buy aronica and rinaudo but he wont sign fabio for FREE for a couple of seasons?! even when hes 40 he will be a better player than those two COMBINED. you watch he wont sign any of the quality names that have been mentioned and will end up signing more average players

    after promotion, when de la said he wanted a team of neapolitans i thought, yes this is the type of president every team should have. now though the players he has brought in and his fascination with cheap argies is just really pissing me off.
    when there are so many talented italians and more importantly, alot of quality neapolitans i cant understand why he wont even try and bring them to the club? he bought aronica over bocchetti for gods sake! i dont want to see this team turn into inter or milan, just full of foreign players

    criscito, bocchetti, nocerino, foggia, di natale, quagliarella, borriello! all of them would join maybe not next season but if the team performed well they would run to naples as there is no neapolitan who could refuse to play at the san paolo
