January Market Begins

By: Neil | January 1st, 2013

Aronica is officially off to Palermo and so begins Napoli’s mercato. 30 days of frenzied and high pressure negotiations, phone calls, and decisions, all having a huge effect on the final 4-5 months of the season. It’s no secret that Napoli is looking for defenders with the departure of Aronica and the suspensions of Canna and Grava. And the suspensions are pretty definite – even if Napoli wins an appeal it will likely be a reduction in the ban rather than having it overturned. So we can count on Cannavaro being out for at least 3 months. There are also rumours that Napoli would like a new left wing back, and the name Armero keeps coming up. Another name to watch is Cagliari’s Davide Astori. The Sardinian club is in financial trouble and will have to sell a couple of their more valuable players. Look for Napoli and other clubs to pounce on the cash strapped Sardinians.

    Happy new year boys!!!!

We cannot be a spectator regarding the transfer market. We need to acquire at least 4 players if we want to gain a CL spot!!

Mino Raiola – what a classy guy!

Gotta love his mercenary mentality, where loyalty means nothing as it’s all about cashing in. Also, who talks about players he doesn’t even represent? #sleazebag

Mino Raiola, money hungry scum, moving for more money does not necessarily mean career progression.

    What a sfaccimmm!

Looks like Armero to Napoli on Friday.

As far as Raiola wannabe Scott Boras, this guy is a loser, but I will say that if Napoli doesn’t finish in the top 3 this year, I’m afraid he might be right.

I wish a year of excitement… in the essence of this Transfer Period …to manifest itself throughout our collective endeavours boys….
I also hope that our beloved President keeps his temper at bay especially that he enters negotiations as a wounded soldier. He must practice what he preaches to keep calm and focused for the benefit of the squad and the well being of all Vesuvian Sons.

Notice how every season for the last 5 years Napoli has brought in 3-4 players every transfer window? And the best market is still summer 2007 when Lavezzi, Hamsik, and Gargano arrived. Total cost of those three was under 15 million euros I believe.

However, bringing over Cavani in summer 2010 was also a giant coup – again, for only 16 million euros. I can’t even remember who else came over that summer.

I’d rather have quality, even if it’s just 1 or 2 players, than bring in a bunch of players who won’t be that much better than our current group.

    Mimmo, I hear ya.

What I’ve been noticing is that some Italians don’t want to come to Napoli. I just read that G. Rossi did not want to come to Napoli after De La already had an agreemebnt with Villareal. It bothers me to no end that these players don’t want to come here and that Napoli gets a bad rap.

I just read how Aronica said that his heart will always be in Naples so stuff like that is awesome to hear.

So it looks like Armero is practically done. Now they are looking at Calaio and Neto as well as Rolando and Astori.

Looks like Campagnaro is set for Inter in June. So much for not wanting to leave Napoli.

I often see people and myself at times of weakness, dispensing all efforts to win over the one among the many that doesn’t accept what the rest crave. Naples has many qualities and faults that are misunderstood as faults. My esteemed tifoso Mr. Luigi, I live in a city of over a quarter of a million Italians, and just a handful are from Napoli. I always said that if you are from Napoli and no longer live there, it isn’t by choice. Even paradise is not for everyone, just don’t let it shake you.

    G. Rossi to Fiorentina, if that squad stays healthy, they will be a force to recon with.

Transfer markets piss me off. DeLa saying we will spend, then we get all the wrong players.

Armero was a sure signing 2 days ago, now they can’t reach an agreement with the player. We wouldn’t be in this mess if we had given Criscito what he wanted 2 summers ago! Remember- we agreed with Genoa but couldn’t agree with the player.

    Bigon is awful.

Astori is too expensive for us at 15 mil says DeLa- Now he’s close to going to Southampton for 10 Mil.

Get things done right now! Open the walet! Use Lavezzi’s 30Million!

Agreement with Udinese is for joint ownership at 4 Million.

Give Cagliari 25-30 Mil for Nainggolan and Astori. These are the type of players we need! Enough with the below average signings

I will be vigilant in not poisoning myself with the unconfirmed words of self appointed inside reporters. I will try to account for mistakes and brilliancy at the end of January, and even the it might be too soon……I don’t know , I’m just saying….

I’m with the upper brass on this one guys. Spending 20-25m on players not tested in big clubs or in Europe scares me. I’d rather spend that kind of money on a plyer from a big club abroad or in Italy with National team and European experience. Players from provincial teams only pan out once in a while. It’s time Italian teams start poaching from the rest of Europe again instead of selling everyone to Arab Sheiks.
