“It Is Not A Beautiful Experience”
By: Neil | April 8th, 2009Napoli, as well as Lega Calcio, Fiorentina, Catania, and Siena are all leading fundraising efforts in the wake of the earthquake in Abruzzo that has killed more than 225 people. Napoli’s gate receipts from the upcoming home game against Atalanta will be donated to the cause, and there will be similar gestures in Catania and Siena. Fiorentina, whose defender Luciano Zauri is from the Abruzzo, will be doing something more in depth over the following weeks to help the victims of the quake.
There are still people missing and turning up alive, and this MSNBC news article does a good job of summarizing the situation. 25 000 people are still homeless, and despite the generosity of hoteliers there simply aren’t enough hotel beds in the area to accomodate everyone.
On the calcio front there will be a minute of silence in all Serie A, B, and Primavera games this weekend. Here is a Channel 4 article with a summary of how the earthquake has affected sport in Italy. Two athletes, one footballer and one volleyball player, have lost their lives.
On a personal note I have friends in the Toronto area who have family members in the Abruzzo and they woke up Monday morning to a very big scare. I’m really happy that Napoli has decided to support our friends from the Abruzzo in this time of great need. Napoli supporters should all be proud of their team as we have once again shown the kind of generosity that our streets are famous for.

Napoli and Campania know to much of earthquakes. The last major one that hit in 1980 saw a 10story appt building in Napoli fall. It hit on a Sunday during service and churchs collapesed during there service. Are prayers are with the people in central Italy.

My sincere prayers are with the folks in Abruzzo. I am thinking about sending a donation to help out.
Forza Napoli!

i will have a look at that site see how much i can give. we dont get any natural disasters in england so its hard to imagine how the whole country is feeling. alot of people ive met in naples blame the big earthquake in the 80s for the rise of crime and its exploitation of such a bad situation. very sad.

did any of you see the barcelona game last night? they are just insanely good. never used to watch spanish football but cant get enough of barcelona now. messi is quite literally the reincarnation of diego!
what do you reckon of this story? the way he acts sometimes i think he sould mabe leave, but he has so much raw talent if donadoni could get him playing without fouling somuch he will be a world class talent. im still praying that we can get criscito and pair them together. if de la wont sign f.cannavaro then he has to sign his heir and that is domenico

the other half of Z-Donkey’s contract? NOOOOOOOOOO He sucks
Why sell SantaCroce??? He just needs a little guidance –from Fabio C. perhaps?

obviously if he was to go i wouldnt be happy with anything under 20m plus a player. and that player would definitely not be zalayeta. floccari has said he likes donadoni and napoli so maybe he could be playing at the san paolo next season. more hamsik rumours as well i say yes to selling him only to juve though get criscito and palladino in exchange

and there it is. marino has to move for this lad now or genoa will snap him up.

Santacroce has the rest of his career to work out his discipline problems. Why replace him with a well disciplined defender who will never reach the kind of quality that Santacroce has shown?
Fabio would be a perfect mentor for not only Santacroce but all of Napoli’s other defenders. Too bad our President can’t find a way to accommodate him.

interesting about hamsik. dont think he has earned a higher wages. if he wants more then he should leave. his form in he 2nd half of the season has been horrible at times.
dont think amelia will leave palermo after one season but he would be an amazing signing. i would be happy with viviano or consigli though.your spot on about santacroce neil and f.cannavaro as well. but i would be very happy with criscito his style of play would compliment santacroces.

well thats the end of that then. unless marino can go and persuade him. if not d’agostino it is!
