Alex ‘emporer nero’ has confused me too– never heard of a specific reference of where it was from. If I had to make a guess I’d say it has something to do with the fact that Nero was a violent s.o.b. obsessed with theatre, thus, the Colosseum (named after a statue of himself). I hope the parallel stops there because Nero was also known for executing his mother (maybe Santacroce’s execution was metaphorical seeing as his mom is Brazilian and he left for Italy?? haha I’ll stop reading too far into this)

Matt I’ll try to touch on that in the next post, thank you for the recommendation.

Hey thanks everyone, I really appreciate the warm welcome. ‘Chris’ is fine, alessio, thanks (the topher part just sounds unnatural sometimes). By the way I’ve really enjoyed your Juve posts keep up the good work.

Haha Alex, glad you liked the pic, I had no clue it would appear that large in the post- nonetheless I suppose it’s all for the better. I play DCM- a ‘poor mans (I like that Vincent)’ DCM. Like to think of myself as a Sissoko, where I just run the pitch taking people out as I go. You play at all?

Peter I sensed that dichotomy of viewpoints as well while reading over the posts, and hope that we can keep that, despite the occasional outbreak.

How are things in “The Region”? My parents lived in Lansing, IL for many years until my father passed away. Now all the family’s back in Chicago.

I’m not totally against Chicago-style thick crust/deep dish pizza, but I prefer the Margherita, which reminds me of my trip to Napoli. I recommend calling ahead to the pizzeria, as wait times to get in can be long sometimes and you’ll be coming in from NW Indiana.

Peter- where is the pizza place? I live in Gary, Indiana about 30 miles from Chicago and can easily get there. My girlfriend and I are always up for new pizza places.

I also play footy, CB is my position. Being 6′3″ helps out quite a bit. I like to think I am a poor man’s Nesta. And I mean very poor. LOL

Anyways, think we need a proper center forward, and with Fabiano being linked with Milan, maybe we can still get Boriello on a loan or co-ownership deal. He has to face facts that Milan don’t believe in him

Welcome, Christopher! I’m really happy that someone has stepped up to make sure this great blog continues. I depend on it immensely since my football knowledge is pretty limited. In particular, I really enjoyed the interplay and contrasting viewpoints of Neil and Alex. I think the spirited debate between them was good for the blog. I was sorry to see Neil leave the blog, but I hope Alex will continue to post often and tell it as he sees it. I appreciate Alex’s honesty and no-B.S. attitude. I also agree with him that Napoli need a greater Southern (Italian) composition. Too many stranieri and we’ll lose our character like the English Premier. I also need Alex to translate those transfer news pieces from the Italian press. So I hope that everyone continues to contribute to this blog and express their opinions honestly. The differences of opinion expressed here have helped me to learn more about the game. Thanks Alex and Neil, and thanks Christopher for stepping up. I look forward to another season of spirited posts on this blog. And about the thick, square American version of pizza . . . I agree with you, Christopher. I love the Neopolitan pie. And I’m from Chicago, where the thick square stuff was born. Fortunately, we have a place here called “Spaccanapoli” run by Neopolitans and dedicated to the true pie. Forza Napoli!
