On the bright side, Roma tied Bologna and Inter is losing to Lecce with second to go

-

freaking damn. fire mazzarri already.

-

Inter lost as well 1-0 final

Mazzarri has earned the right to finish out the year… as much as I criticize him, just let him finish this season and after we can take a big picture view.
Right now the small picture view isn’t good – 2 points in 3 matches vs. Bologna, Siena, and Genoa??

-

we saw the real Napoli for about 10 minutes…..

-

There is no bright side. Despite what the other teams do, until we fix our own mindset, tactics or lack thereof. We are not gaining ground on anyone.

-

Horrible!! Part of me was hoping they’d get blown out so they can reinforce before the 31st deadline.
Our defense, which was incredible last year has shown signs of cracks. Not getting criscito really hurt this team.
I just read this morning that bocchetti would require dishing out 10 million , I’m curious to see what happens.
What’s the purpose of getting all these young players if they never play?

-

Agreed Neil. As troubling as our recent form has been Mazzarri by getting in to the last 16 in the Champions League, has earned the right to finish out the year. The team played hard for him last season, but this year there seems to be something missing. Let the season run it’s course then go from there

-

Huh, pretty soon genoa and palermo will pass us as well.
In hindsight when Mazz said he wanted to leave over the summer that they grant his wish instead of pleading to keep him.

-

Luigi, that is what made them so dangerous last year. The defense being as solid as it was and being absolutely lethal on the counter. Even earlier this year against Milan, and City in the CL. not sure what exactly has changed, but they are not as tight at the back, seem to be pressing and playing to open which costs them goals and those great chances on the counter

-

I wonder if Mazzarri notices that we he goes to the 4 3 3 the teams performs better……
I agree with Neil, we should let Mazzarri finish the season….

-

oopps…i meant when he goes to….

-

Neil,
While you say he deserves to finish the season, it’s comments like this that piss me off.
Fatigue? It’s your job to rotate players. It’s called using your bench. Why not Fernandez? He’s been good. You have Grava on the bench , do you ever plan on using him?
At what point does the “fatigue ” excuse end?
Mazzarri rues terrible start
By Football Italia staffWalter Mazzarri says Napoli paid the price for fatigue and a terrible first half in their 3-2 thriller at Genoa.
“We put in such a great second half performance, but we got it all wrong at the start and took 30 minutes to get into gear,” he said after fighting back from 3-0 down.
“This game was all an uphill struggle and perhaps we deserved a point considering how we came back into it.
“Genoa were more vehement, more aggressive and passionate than us for the first half-hour. After their second goal we played really well, but it was too late to recover completely.
“We do concede a few too many goals. We were distracted in defence on Alberto Gilardino’s goal, but perhaps playing every three days does rob you of a little sharpness that can make the difference.
“Napoli must grow. The Champions League sides are paying a price in Serie A and the statistics show that clearly. It’s a physical issue and we’re just unaccustomed to this schedule.”

when Vargas came in today it reminded me of when Dimitru used to come in while we where down by a few goals …

-

lol, very true Ross!! I don’t recall Dumitru ever getting more than a cameo appearance as a sub

I hope there’s a way they can bring in Spalletti in the summer. His Roma sides were always competitive in the league and in the champions league, as well as usually made the final of coppa italia. They played a fun style of football and tended to utilize all their weapons offensively. This Napoli side definitely has the talent to compete on all fronts (without any excuses). They also have the ability to play attractive football but not compromise themselves defensively and as others have mentioned, can we please see more of the younger players! Utilize you damn depth!
Mazzarri has taken this team as far as he could, but it’s time for some new blood in charge. These excuses, like everything else, are making me sick. He’s so full of it – saying he got sent off on purpose to motivate the team against Villarreal? What a load of crap.

Hello!
Last year I told about tactics, this season it seems that it isn’t really that, it’s mentality.
They got a big head with the CL, and DeLa saying the CL is the first priority doesn’t make it at all.
We failed our season. And to be honest, if we could bring a Spalletti or any other strating by today, I would sign withtout hesitation. But only a great coach, not a Gasperini-like…

i think my biggest gripe with mazzarri now is he seems to push players out of the squad
losing players like santacroce, cigarini, quagliarella and to a lesser extent pazienza, datolo, denis etc has fucked us up in terms of depth
constantly bringing in mediocre players like dzemalli, britos, donadel, fideleff, vargas (yes he is average!!!) is just so frustrating especially when you see talented youngsters just sent to 3rd division clubs to rot

-

i mean lucarelli, chavez, hoffer etc what is the point in signing these players??? how much money has been wasted seriously!

-

Alex, I agree that Mazz has pushed players out (man would a player like Denis be incredible on our team this year). I don’t agree with your characterization of the mediocre guys. Dzmaili is good and has been very important in key games. Unfortunately (and I compare him to Cigarini here) he is not CM capable of playing in Mazz’s stupid system. He likes to get forward, and when he’s given the opportunity, he’s been good. But asking him to play alongside Gargano in a holding role is just stupid and setting him up for failure.
Vargas is just too darn early. He was ok in his 1st outing. He was thrown in at the end yesterday when Genoa basically had 11 men in the box defending. I’m not willing yet to dismiss him. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Donadel came over on a free transfer and could have been an important piece but was injured – can’t blame anyone for that. What I don’t get about his situation was that he came back in early Jan, played pretty well and we haven’t seen him again. Getting back to Dzemaili, I would much rather see Donadel holding alongside Gargano in Mazz’s system.
The bigger problems for me with Mazz is that he seems to want certain players (Lucarelli and Britos) to the exclusion of others (Trezeguet and Bocchetti). That Cavani is “tired” and there isn’t a good pure striker guy on the bench is all on Mazz who wanted Lucarelliand got rid of Denis last year, then kept him this summer even when Trezeguet was available and willing.

Looks like Napoli signed kabine? Another player that won’t play?

-

I’ve been a big fan of napoli but I can never find a good english blog about napoli any suggestions?

-

atlPartinopei, right here.
Luigi, Kabine has something to do with paperwork and will not be wearing a Napoli jersey, he will be stating with his club. Can’t wait until tomorrow to see if there are any moves on deadline day. Still have my fingers crossed about Candreva, I was always a fan of his.

-

atlpartinopei, mario is right this blog is most likely your best bet. i also follow bigsoccer.com forum for napoli transfer info. with that being said alot of the news articles are usually posted in italian. ive slowly been able to understand the articles with my basic italian, if not just ask and someone will help you out.
