Funicoli, Finicola news
By: Joe | July 7th, 2008What’s this? Consecutive posts? Timely news? The truth is I’ve ignored this blog for far too long due to family/work/sleep. I forgot how cool it was to actually read and write about my team.
* Our jersey officially be officially presented tomorrow. Here’s a sneak peak at the design of our primary jersey. The main difference is the collar, which is an improvement over last year’s design that looked like a baby’s bib. The main problem remains the insistence (by Lete?) on the big red square for the sponsor. I don’t get it and from what I’ve heard from tifosi in Napoli, everyone seems to think the design is a disaster. The other two jerseys will be red and dark blue instead of red and white as has been the case the last few years.
* God, I love our President. Aurelio De Laurentis is said to have offered his players a 600,000 euro bonus if they advance to the group stage of the EUFA Cup (Napoli will have to play a pair of two-legged ties to advance to the “proper” EUFA Cup). Nicely done, De La!
* The search for a left-winger continues. Direttore Generale, Pier Paulo Marino was rumored to be hot after Fiorentina winger Manuel Pasqual. Marino was reportedly offering 5 million euro for the 26-year old Reggina youth product. Pasqual has been a mainstay for the Viola appearing in 98 matches over the last three years. Gastone Rizzato, Pasqual’s agent, yesterday told Radio Goal that when he was in Rome he heard nothing from Fiorentina regarding any potential offer. Despite that the Viola have signed young Peruvian starlet Juan Vargas, who also plays a similar role, Rizzato thinks Pasqual will stay in Florence. I wouldn’t bet on it, but I’m not convinced he’s coming south to Naples, either.
*Left back Maurizio Domizzi may not be on the move after all. After having been linked with almost every club in Italy, Domizzi has been unable to get a deal done for his services. As a result, the Roman defender will join the club in Austria on Wednesday. There’s still a chance Domizzi will move on, but for the time being it’ll be good to have him back with the squad. These pre-season times are when the club can gel and if Domizzi has any future with the club, he needs to be training with the squad. Honestly, it’s bad enough Ezequiel Lavezzi and Nicolas Navarro won’t be with the club at all prior to the Serie A season. So welcome back you big red-assed Roman. Let’s try to actually play some defense this year, eh?
* Our first friendly is tomorrow against some park district club from the Jennersdorf. They have park districts in Austria, right?

Hm. Reserving judgment on the new kit until I see players wearing them. It’s hard to tell with two guys holding up the shirt. But it’s not as if they could really be worse than last season. (What’s the sponsor logo got to do with the design? Come up with a kit and then work out where to stick Lete’s big red rectangle. Honestly, they should start letting the tifosi design the kits-I’ve seen better efforts on fan sites than what Diadora came up with last year.)

Grosso would be great. But that is reaching. You might as well sign fabio from real Madrid. If your gunna spend money like that. Grosso! Don’t tease me now.

I’m with Lisa. No gunna say I hate or love the jerseys just yet. I will see when I have it in my hands after ordering it online. Ugly or not I will still buy a jersey. Although I kind of liked the red one from last year.

Grosso would be awesome to have, especially after seeing him recently the Euros. His left side runs, nice crosses…. his left footed curling free kicks.

Also, here is a picture of more of this season’s jerseys. The orange, black and green are the keeper’s.

I’m not sure about the red player kits but both blue ones look pretty good.

The dark blue ones are tight. Believe the piping is Napoli’s traditional sky blue instead of white which is kind of how it looks in the picture. The red shirts with the sky blue shorts? Wow, that is some kind of ugly…one thing you have to say about Napoletano’s is that they are traditionally very sharp dressers. They may only have one good outfit, but you can make damn sure that outfit will always be clean and look sharp. I think that’s why there’s been a good bit of outrage from the Napoli tifosi.

The shirts look ok on the players. I’ll be ordering one. Joe, you’re on the N. American side of the Atlantic, right? Where do you order from over here? (Anyone else who knows a good place to get shirts from, please feel free to chime in. I’ve never ordered from the US before, so I don’t know where to look!)
As I’m sure we all expected, Napoli won yesterday’s friendly with Jennersdorf, score was 10-0. (Summary here.) Also, OFK (the Serbian team) won the first leg of their Intertoto matchup with Panionios 1-0 at home. Return leg is Sunday.

I use uksoccershop.com I am down in Florida but I am on my blackberry posting most of the time so it says Canada. I dunno why? I just got back from over there but it was a little expensive to buy any Napoli gear cause the exchange rate. Look on that site Lisa. Plus the Napoli website has a store that should open up soon. Plus when you over there buying stuff you can never tell if it is made by the commorra. I think that’s how you spell it. Anyways no one wants to support those people.

Joe, I believe all Blackberry correspondence goes through Research In Motion’s central office in Waterloo, Ont. That might be why your post is coming from Canada.

Thanks, Joe. I’ve used UKSoccerShop before. Didn’t realize they shipped to the US, but seeing as they do, I’ll stick with them. The Napoli website has said the store is “coming soon” for ages. Wonder when they’re actually going to have it up and running…

I hope they get the site running soon Lisa. Maybe they were waiting for these jerseys to come out? Prob Not. Haha! Typical Napoli promise. Got to love it.
