Datolo and Hamsik on Target in WC Qualifying

By: Neil | September 6th, 2009

Marek Hamsik had a very interesting three minutes for Slovakia yesterday. In the 73rd minute he scores the go ahead goal, in the 74th minute he picks up a yellow, and in the 75th minute he gets a second yellow. After his dismissal the Czech Republic scored an equalizer for a 2-2 final. Meanwhile, Jesus Datolo hit a screamer for Argentina in a losing cause with Brazil claiming a 3-1 win on Argentina’s home turf in Rosario. Highlights after the jump.

The pain on Maradona’s face after Luisao scores is priceless.

The Slovakia – Czech highlights don’t show a first yellow card for Hamsik and I’d love to know what it was for. The draw leaves group leaders Slovakia in good position to qualify for South Africa. Their remaining games are against Northern Ireland, Slovenia, and Poland.

In Tbilsi Fabio Quagliarella came on in the 59th minute for Giuseppe Rossi. Is it just me or does Georgia manager Hector Cuper remind you of Edy Reja? Buffon looked sharp and he if stays in form it’ll give Italy lots of confidence no matter who Lippi picks in front of him.

Finally, Walter Gargano played a full 90 minutes in Uruguay’s 1-0 loss to Peru and Juan Camilo Zuniga started for Colombia and was subbed in the 72nd minute. Colombia defeated Ecuador 2-0. Erwin Hoffer came on as a sub in the 61st minute of Austria’s 3-1 win over Faroe Islands. If I’ve missed anything about Napoli’s players in WC Qualifying, please add the relevant details. Can’t wait to see the Genoa – Napoli game next week.

Datolo was one of the few highlights of Argentina’s game last night. His goal was beautiful.

you know, Inter is waaaay down in Argies (we only have 4 now that Nico is at Roma), perhaps…..

I’m not making fun of Maradona… I’m simply saying that the camera captured him in a moment of real emotion, and it’s priceless because you don’t always see that from managers. Yes, it was a negative emotion and not a positive one. That’s life. Argentina can’t win every game, and as great as Maradona is he’s going to experience both ups and the downs.

I am not suggesting that I enjoy watching Maradona or his team lose, but I think it’s great when football brings out real emotions. That’s all.

as a napoli fan maradona is the best player ever known, but as an england fan hes a cheat. and of course there was the whole falklands war business, argies are not exactly loved in england.

apparently floccari and crespo could be fit for the genoa game, quite a scary thought! i find it really shitty that they are creating problems for napoli fans to go to the game after 27 years of friendship between the clubs

Johonna thank you for responding… ESPN360 only shows a few games and isnt available with my ISP… I am a big Napoli fan and have been watching the games on 1 of many streaming p2p sites… But that seriea.tv was great while it lasted… It had every game and wasnt a p2p site, it was a great quality feed that was worth the around $100 for the season…. Im still looking for the site that can be seen in the USA that is the rights holder for the real feeds if there is 1… OMNISPORT.TV has the rights but not to show in USA unfortunately

I agree, Serie A.tv was great. I also had a subscription, but I dont think it is ever coming back. Seriously, try mysoccerplace.net They have both live and archived games. I use it when the game I want isn’t televised.

    I also can’t use ESPN360.

“Cannavaro’s form this season so far has been 2006-like. Read the game superbly, and executed some superb tackles and interceptions.”

cannavaro played well, but italy were not stretched at the back, the match was won in the first ten minutes, bulgaria’s problem was berbatov the lazy bollix. been an italy fan since i was born, was just a kid in 82, was at the final in 90 when we shoulda been there, was at the final in 2000 when the french skanked us and was too drunk to remember the final in 2006, haha. forza azzuri!

Cannavaro should be leading Napoli defence!

Looked better today than previous games, but Italia are going to need to step up a gear in South Africa

spoken like a true neapolitan! he reminds me of the old libero type players how they are cool and composed in defence, then they can build a fast attack from the back. he would cost a lot of money but i hope de laurentiis will make a bid in the next couple of years as i reckon criscito is going to be world class and he clearly loves napoli.

good to see quagliarella planting the seeds in his fellow neapolitans as well!

The new season is on at uefa.com’s Fantasy Champions League competition. I took the liberty of creating a league for us offsiders as I’m sure there are lots of fantasy football lovers on this site and in the absence of a quality Serie A online fantasy game, this is the next best option for us to compare our knowledge, luck (and back-and-forth bickering skills).

If you’d like to join, you can register here:

    http://en.uclfantasy.uefa.com/

Once you’ve registered, you can join public and private leagues by clicking on the Leagues tab once you’ve selected your team. In order to join this particular league, copy/paste this code into the appropriate field (you can’t miss it once you’re there):

    20837-5551

Happy playing, I hope we can get an interesting competition going. Each league has its own forum so we can converse there without spamming these boards too much.

Joe, mysoccerplace.net is not a p2p streaming site (although they do host live streams, I think). They have full archived matches broken into 15 minute chunks that you can watch (like youtube) without downloading the whole game.
