Army of Darkness Rising…
By: Christopher | July 24th, 2009(Yeah Uncle Dino you get some love too, Army of Darkness rules)
Amid our preseason friendlies (which I ditched work to attempt to stream but ended up not finding one regardless) there are some conclusions to draw, even though I don’t believe you can draw conclusions from preseason friendlies. And they are: Lavezzi, sit down shut up and play. For a little while I was beginning to think Palermo were going to take the lead from us in the race to see which team can sign the best South American talent. Bertolo and Pastore look to be some promising additions to an already good squad. But then Zuniga took the field and showed a good chunk of worth in his versatility and play making ability. The 3-5-2 against St. Polten saw him switched to the left side on which he dominated, and Donadoni has even mentioned about moving him up in the formation to assume more of a defensive mid role. Against Wiener Schnitzel we played 4 at the back and Zuniga adapted once again with a solid defensive performance and creating opportunities offensively (would have been on the records for some assists if Pia could finish). If there is a formation change (no more 3-5-2 suggestions Reja! when do you not think that is ‘the best formation for the team?’) no doubt it will be a more seamless transition with Zuniga’s ability to play either side, as well as a midfield role if a more concrete LB is signed. This would allow Maggio to remain on the right, which if I’m not mistaken, translates in Napoli SSC footballing language to: “Deadly accurate crosses bombarding from either left or right.” Zuniga is turning out to be all I hoped for, and more. When he dribbled through three defenders and ’stuck it in the back of the old onion bag (think of something new Tommy Smyth),’ the cheer from the fans ‘brought him to tears.’ If he’s crying in a July, we are going to need some serious Prozac in May if we don’t make a top four finish. That is the type of passion that we need this season if we are to succeed, and I hope he can become a role model for the team ( on second thought maybe just Lavezzi) to follow.

Look at this picture and tell me you don’t love this guy. I dare you.
Now look at Zuniga and go sit in the time out chair Lavezzi. I’m going to have to agree with our president in that I’ve never heard a bigger fuss over seven goals then I have in this ordeal. There are plenty of contracts that should be improved before Lavezzi’s. If money isn’t enough motivation for Lavezzi next season, maybe the possibility of being eaten by another human is? Don’t worry I found some dramatic music to accompany this notion:
(Lavezzi could be that troll from 300 that betrays the Spartans? Other than that the video doesn’t really apply sorry)
“He is an inconsistent player. He is not the new Maradona and his contribution doesn’t help the team. For the moment, we have not made any mistakes. If an actor were to behave like this I would eat him alive”- De Laurentiis.
You have to applaud the intensity of De Laurentii’s efforts in laying down the law with restrictions on crazy parties (listen up Lavezzi) before and around games/ practices. The basis of ‘Lippi-an footballing philosophy,’ there’s a lot to be said for building a team oriented mentality as player talent goes only so far. This being said, what do you think… How bad do we need Pocho, at what point is enough enough?
The question has at one point entered all of our minds…
Could we place a top four finish without Lavezzi?(survey)

Messi, sa che il grande sogno dei tifosi del Napoli è vedere un giorno un campione come lei in azzurro?

its good that messi is saying positive things about napoli, not sure if dela has 150m or however much his buy out clause would be. i really wish we would make a cheeky bid for de federico hes meant to be unreal!

Lavezzi has the potential to become a world-class football-player but if you dont have the right qualities as a human being you wont get far.
I actually thought that the club would have solved the situation by now, but of course there must be a willingness to solve the matter on both sides of the table. Its creating too much unnecessary negative focus.
He wont find a new club with the attitudes he and his agent has shown over the last months. If he really wants to move away or get a better contract he needs to play a good season helping both himself and the club.
I hope he will realize that before the new season begins.
Although Lavezzi would be missed if he is not playing, my patience is running thin with his lack of club-commitment.
He could learn alot from Hamsik when it comes to re-newing his spirit and eventually becoming a favourite-player amongst the fans.
Many surplus-players must be sold, lets see how long it will take?Posted from

all but official with dossena, just need to agree with wages. 4.5 mil pounds aboud 5.5 euro i’m guessing.

I was hoping Vitale would get some more serious PT this year. He had some good moments last season and I think will get better. Plus he can play further up the field too. I guess Napoli wants to add depth. Are we now going to play with a 4 man defence? Please?

Lavezzi is a world class player, and the team is not even half as good without him. This all seems to have started since Donadoni took over. With him in charge I really fear for the future of the team. His time in charge of the national team was characterized by poor preparation, tactical ineptitude and bizzare decisions. Personally I think Donadoni doesn’t see a way of fitting Lavezzi into the system and would be happy to see the back of him.
I think this will be a disaster, he’ll turn our team into a load of passionless robots who try (and fail) to grind out 1-0 wins. All my life I’ve watched Napoli, and sometimes (10 years ago) it’s been painful viewing. But even in the very bad years the players had a passion, a desire and a sense of pride that was unequalled in the country. Napoli was and always will be a team of the people, it’s more than a squad, it’s the heart of Mezzogiorno and a harbinger for the lingering marginalisation. Donadoni doesn’t get this, Lavezzi does.

What Zoran is saying scares me. Is there any truth in this?

Donadoni’s short reign as national team coach was always seen to be a temporary ‘fill in’ position. Even if he did lead Italy to the Euro final – I’m still sure he would of gotten the sack in favour of the return of Lippi. Lavezzi (my favourite Napoli player) sorry to say is a selfish prick. He did put himself in front of the team. I have confidence in Donadoni and am sure he can lead Napoli to a successful season (top 6 would be a success i think). I respect you opinion Zoran..but I think Lavezzi has been in the wrong and I’m hoping he can redeem himself on the pitch.

This mercato is just too good to be true! It looks like we are setting ourelves up to play a 4 man defense which would be great!

It’s looking official, so, what are everyone’s thoughts on Dossena?

I like Dossena. He’s young. He plays hard and if anything, it just gives up some more depth on the squad, which we saw players getting hurt left and right last year just killed Napoli last year. Let’s see how good Lavezzi is with a talented squad around him, where he doesn’t feel like he has to be the man. At times he looks incredible, but at the same time I do think he needs to grow up a little bit. I would also like for him to cut back on his partying ways. Napoli can really be special. I would like to see De-La get another striker. Denis could be somebody to come off the bench, but I can’t see him playing 90 minutes. If Milan gets Rossi, maybe Borriello could go on loan. I know I know it’s wishful thinking, but hey..Napoli picked up 6 SOLID players. Who would have thought that during the season last year. not me that’s for sure.

zoran lavezzi is far from world class. that phrase is used far too much these days. hes got great potential but hes too temperamental. we all know what he can do but its his attitude thats really let him down.
what you say about lavezzi understanding napoli is complete nonsense as well. is this the same lavezzi who said he didnt want to leave the house because of the fans? and instead of showing the respect to the colours he parties with prostitutes and goes out drinking all the time??
i used to love lavezzi but his attitude, along with so many other southern americans, has seriously pissed me off. seriously who expects a pay rise after playing like shit?? i hope he can start producing but im not getting my hopes up.
so liverpool have accepted a bid for dossena, if he joins i would have to this has been a A+ mercato. every weak aspect of the team has been improved with some real quality as well, especially cigarini.
with the money being spent by dela, anything less than a top 6 finish would be an epic fail to be honest. still think the team is a cassanoesque signing away from the top 4 but who knows! really cant wait for the season to start lets just hope donadoni can get them playing hard!this is how i want donadoni to talk to the team!

From WIkipedia – Erwin Hoffer (born 14 April 1987) is an Austrian footballer who plays for Serie A club Napoli and the Austria national team.
Hoffer started his professional career at 17 with VfB Admira Wacker Mödling and moved to Rapid Wien after two seasons. He won the Austrian Football Bundesliga title with Rapid in the 2007/2008 season and scored a hattrick in their 7-0 victory against Red Bull Salzburg.
On July 28, 2009 Napoli has signed the striker on a five-year deal[1].
During the U-20 World Cup in Canada, Hoffer shaved the name “Jimmy” into one side of his head after receiving that nickname from a coach. The nickname is a reference to Jimmy Hoffa.
He was part of the Austrian squad that played at Euro 2008, a competition which Austria co-hosted along with Switzerland. The only match that Hoffer started in was their last group match against Germany in Vienna.
On April 1, 2009 Hoffer scored two goals for Austria in a 2-1 win over Romania in a Qualification match for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

it would be quality if he started to bang in goals and we could all praise jimmy hoffa! even better if thats his name on his shirt

Hoffer is the real deal. Saw him at the U-20 World Cup and he really impressed. He’s got speed and control. I’d like to see him bulk up a little but our forwads are now: Lavezzi, Quagliarella, Denis, Pia and the Hoff. That is not too shabby at all.
We need a top 6 finish or this will be a major disappointment. Schedule comes out tomorrow!

Another signing? I just saw the highlights from Alex’s link. My wife is Romanian so I gotta ask my brother in law what his thoughts were on Hoffa considering he smacked 2 goals on their gypsy a$$. ( Sorry for anybody who’s a gypsy)!!!

I’m a gypsy Luigi…that was not cool, not cool at all. Wow, just finished rubbing my junk over reports of an agreed fee for Dossena, and now a striker? Better yet, an Austrian striker- Austrians seem like they produce quality at that position, just no real talents in the midfield on their Nazionale to serve them balls. We can solve that problem–Haha Lou, funny hair Hoffer… meet funny hair Hamsik.

he better be good for the scratch we paid for the Hoff. Never heard of him. We coudln’t dish out 5 mill on an Italian?? Oh well, I will give him a chance.
The Dossena pickup is nice. He is a decent workmanlike dude who will add some nice depth and Italian to the squadra.
Very very interesting to say the least!

Yes Dossena should be interesting.. I will admit I wanted to fly to South Africa and tackle him off the field the way he played against Brazil– easily one of the worst players on the pitch that day. But like Donadoni, he always just somehow does it better at the club level so we’ll see. Didn’t think he was that bad at Liverpool and was even better at Udinese. Either way its damn nice to have a solid LB. I agree with you Vincent in the sense that if we we were not going to chase an established forward and try sign a young on the rise type of character, then why release Russotto, and buy Hoffer? But, guess we gotta leave that one up to the pros. Hell the only time I saw Hoffer play was that random Euro game, and even then I didn’t remember the name until today.
