Some Transfer Stuff (catchy title right?)

By: Christopher | July 4th, 2009

Finally found a reason why there are so many SudaAmericani seeking refuge with us (no more ‘following Maradona’ excuses): Some hardcore Santa Fe fans recently threatened to kill the Colombian coach if they did not include their centerback Najera in the squad.
Don\'t worry Zuniga, you\'re safe with us
http://football.uk.reuters.com/world/news/LT469984.php

“Come detto prima, la rosa del Napoli è composta da giocatori forti e da tanti altri sudamericani che sicuramente mi aiuteranno ad ambientarmi velocemente nel gruppo”- Yeaaa we’ve heard that before Mr. Zuniga

That may have seemed random– which it probably was, but this needed a transition to Juan Zuniga, as he deserves some more space on our offside, precisely 8.5 mill and 800,000 a year worth of space (Figure Quags got two posts, Zuniga should get about a little less than a post?) In all seriousness, Zuniga’s fee seems worthwhile, but on the verge of being a tad extravagant. If that isn’t too vague, Zuniga is a respectable young player with great possibilities– just not sure if last season warranted more than doubling his price tag since moving from Atletico Nacional. Initial interest from Viola and Juve may have spurred it on a bit, but despite the pricetag, Zuniga has proven a dominant force during his time with Siena. His style is almost ‘Maicon-esque’ if you will, with dribbling to attract defenders, vision, pace, and the occasional filthy long shot (those really annoying ones that Maicon always nets just when you think Inter is going to lose).

Nonetheless, defensive reconstruction since last seasons spectacles continues... De la has been hinting at adding to the reinforcements, particularly left back. Reverting back to the four man back a more natural wing back seems like a must. Although the idea of Paolo De Ceglie has been around too long and rejected numerous times, he should still be a consideration. Since Real Madrid bought Benzema, and Lyon now need someone to score goals to compensate for the void of Benzema's goal-every other-game- average, and Juve have Trezegoal, and Trezegoal no longer scores goals for the Bianconeri, and Lyon have Grosso, and Juve need a skilled (sorry Molinaro- we do respect your work rate though) left back, and then....you get the idea. If that somehow falls through Genoa's Francesco Modesto seems to be a viable option, now that Criscito has confirmed his stay --most likely occupying the starting LB position. Switching from the 3-5-2 will also mean a surplus of midfielders --Other than Dalla Bona's expected move to Triestina in the coming days, only time will tell for sure. Montervino's status is somewhat vague in the wait for his contract extension, but usually the renewals are just saved for the later parts of the transfer window.

Happy 4th of July

Yeah, I thought Zuniga’s tag was bit too much. Kind of reminds me of Vargas at Fiorentina. One great season in smaller team at full back, big money move to Florence, sucky season until moved to midfield, and still not that great. Hope Zuniga works out better for us.

I am all for a return to a 4 man defence. Much better, but a few midfielders will need to go. I still think selling Gargano would bring in some dough, and I am not sold on him.

glad we won’t get cruz, hope for obinna. also, recently read (can’t remember where) that borriello on loan may be a possibility.

Boriello on Loan? Didn’t I say that lol

Would be a fantastic move If Boriello wants to have a chance for the WC team, he needs to play every week. With Milan after Dzesko, Fabiano, KJH, etc… Milan doesn’t have much faith in him

Come to Naples Marco! And bring Belem Rodriguez as well! She is seriously HOT!

Matt here’s an article that talks about departures and such to answer your question, not sure I agree with some of them but it’s a good rough idea of what’s going on:

carrying on from the last post i play a lot of football and my favourite position is definitely CB although i play defensive midfield or even upfront if people are injured. im a 6′4 yorkshireman who used to play a lot of rugby so im sure you can imagine what type of player i am!

borriello would definitely be the icing on the cake. although sky sport italia are saying milan might not even buy any other players, after berlusconi said they can challenge for honours with the current team. im not a huge fan of milan (although baresi is my all time footballing god) but its a shame to see whats happening to them. there is no excuse for how poor they have been in the transfer market especially with the talent available in italy (why dont they sign italians anymore??). whether or not marco goes back home all depends on milan spending a little coinage.

read an interesting article to do with the money for tv rights that will be available from the 2010-11 season and it said the reason de laurentiis has gone balls out with his money is because the higher a team finishes the more money the club recieves.

now is the time to catapult napoli back into the elite of serie a and im very optimistic for the future as there is going to be a shift of power with milan and roma definitely on a slippery slope.

jury is still out on zuniga hes definitely the type of player you buy on a co-ownership. its easy for a player to shine in a team like siena although hes played in medellín so i expect him to be hard as fuck.

christopher it would be good for you to do a post about your opinion of serie a in general like what teams you like, which ones you dont etc? what do you think about donadoni and what players need to be brought in?

one more thing, my girlfriends brother was watching the c.ronaldo presentation at the bernabeu (75,000 people there to watch it!), do you think a stream of quagliarella will be available?!!!! fuck c.ronaldo hes an absolute douchbag quags is the best signing of the summer!

on a more serious note what do you guys think of him? having had him play in the premier league for the last 6 seasons, ive seen and heard nothing else so i can honestly say hes a quality footballer but one of the biggest turds ive ever seen. he waxes his armpits for gods sake!

why im even mentioning this epic twat is seeing him at that presentation and all those people going wild, when he went over to a group of kids i just thought there isnt a worse role model out there

    C. Ronaldo is a man whore skank. Caught messing around with Paris Hilton for pete’s sake! Plus, he is a royal asswipe. Couldn’t give a toss about him

I also would like to see the Quags presentation! Now that would be quality.

Hey Alex, we both play CB, since you are 6′4 and I’m 6′3 , would there be a bigger pair of defenders in the World? LOL Plus, I grew up playing basketball so enjoy the physical side of the defensive arts myself[evil laugh]

Oh yeah, and Belen Rodriguez is smokin’ hot!

vincent i think naldo and mertesacker hold that title i think they are both 6′6?! ive only ever had two nicknames and both come from me playing football, “ivan drago” and “the viking”

borriellos woman is absolutely amazing but with a lot of these so called WAGS im sure shes a right bitch. nothing more evil in this world than a beautiful, money hungry woman!

so milan signed onyewu anybody else think the san siro is just going to crumble?!! is milan on the brink of collapse? senderos last season and now onyewu? from the club who have had some of the best italian defenders ever? then you get players like andreolli going to bari?!!

why does napoli keep getting linked with obinna? hes shit, i mean how many goals did he score last season, 3? hes a year older than acquafresca as well so how will he fare under the pressure? another really, really average stranieri. if he came on loan or even a co-ownership then maybe but if marino buys him outright i will be pissed. especially as russotto is better, yonger and was just fucked off.
same as mudingayi another average player that isnt really needed. i wouldnt be happy with either of these players.

seems to be a trend of the bigger italian clubs to either ignore of not put trust in young italians. there are so many talented players coming through but the larger clubs would rather buy average stranieri and i find it ridiculous that teams like roma are not seeing the potential of andreolli and maybe letting him go to bari!

Haha too bad we are all too far away to play together that would be quite the scene. Alex I thought ‘the gooch’ wasn’t too poor of an investment from Milan– his isolation in a lot of the Confed Cup games (at least the earlier ones) seemed to be from the complete lackluster play of our fullbacks (Beasley, wtf?). But of course, letting go of Kaka and having him be the first signing must be somewhat of a stomach turner for their fans.

Gooch is decent, but c’mon, what is the problem with signing top Italian defensive prospects? Is gooch better than Andreolli? I doubt it, the kid just needs experience. And like Alex said, I am sick of this average stranieri shit. If the same player with the same experience was from say Brazil or Argentina and not Italy, we would all hear how great they are blah blah blah. Yeah, some kid plays had Huracan or Cortiba so their the latest flavor. F’n BITE ME!!!!
